Hi guys,

Sorry I'm sure this has been asked before but I have searched and searched and can't find a definite answer (probably because there isn't one!)
DH and I have been TTC for a year now and going to see the GP early August. Just wondered if anyone would mind giving me a vague layout of what happens from the first appointment onwards? What are the next steps and what kind of time scale? For various reasons I think it's likely we will end up on the IVF route eventually. How long vaguely do they try other things before you can start the IVF journey?
I realise there are big geographic differences but would appreciate any advice or info anyone can give me thank you. We live in Rochdale North Manchester by the way so think the hospital would be St Mary's.
Thank you so much xxx

Hi. It's usually your 21 day blood test to see if your ovulating and sperm analysis at GP. Then they will refer you to the fertility clinic at your local hospital, this can can take a few months. It was 4.5 months for me. Once I was referred to the gynecology department,i had an ultrasound and hysterscopy to look in my womb. They may refer you for a hycosy which is a tube test. Once they get the the bottom of your infertility, they'll refer you accordingly. If its unexplained and you've been trying for 2 years, they'll refer you for IVF Smile

Hi Pink, I am in the middle of IVF with st Mary's - I have my egg transfer this week!

So you are under no disillusions I want to tell you - it's slow. St Mary's has a huge catchment area and is understaffed in the IVF department. My GP referred me in September 2016 and my initial appointment came through for June 2017! I was lucky and got a cancellation for March. After my initial consultation it took 3 months to get to IVF. I'm on short protocol which saved an extra month.

Let me know if you have any questions!
