Infertility
IVF ovarian cancer risk - worried
Goodluckjonathan76 · 12/06/2017 13:16
Due to start my first cycle of IVF next month but having a lot of reservations, the main one being the fact that they cannot rule out a link between IVF and ovarian cancer. Just wondered how others got comfortable with this before going ahead. I know the risk is still low but still.

I never even heard of this!
It must be linked to high estrogen levels that raise with stimulation? There must be a group of women who are particularly at risk due to some underlying issues? What is the risk percentage?
Personally I am more worried about OHSS than anything else!

From what I understand, there is no evidence to suggest that the cause of some infertility may be linked to ovarian cancer rather than fertility treatment.. thus is not something I worried about for a moment with my IVF cycle.

I looked into this a lot before my first cycle, and couldn't find any evidence that there is a link.
Yes, they can't rule out a link, but they can't rule out a link between drinking orange juice and getting cancer - it is very hard to prove a negative like this
But given how long IVF has been in existence, and how many cycles are carried out around the world every year, it would be pretty clear if there was a pattern emerging

Thanks all, reassuring. Finding it so hard to take the leap.
