Just need to have a rant about this shitty place and warn everyone here not to touch them with a barge pole!
We had our NHS ivf cycle cancelled in March as I was told last minute I have POF. Devastating but I understand you can't do ivf with sky high FSH.
We started looking into ED. Assumed we would have to go private (abroad as it's the only way we could remotely afford it, and even that will be a stretch) However I had a life line follow up with the head of unit last month and was told (his exact words) that we can have a cycle funded on NHS if we supply the donor. We were told only potential cost would be donor agency if we decided to use one. I go away feeling positive for first time in ages.
However I've now found out from funding manager that what we were told in consultation is bollocks. We will also have to pay £750 to Guys for donors scans, bloods etc, £600 for my meds and possibly the cost of donors meds as well (£1000+) as that might not be covered by funding!
So upset and furious. That hospital have told us nothing but a pack of lies. Where on earth does that class as an NHS cycle? The way they treat their patients is beyond disgusting.
Really want to warn everyone here away from them. Just steer clear

Sorry you've had a bad experience but mine was great there and so were most other people's I know.
Most nhs hospitals do fuck up at some point.

I'm glad everyone else has had a great experience, but we've had nothing but bad experiences since we first walked through their doors. Disorganised, lacking in compassion and could not give a toss about our treatment.
I'm sorry, but the actual head of the unit telling us we can have free treatment when it's actually bollocks? Just not acceptable on any level imo.
Isthismummy · 09/06/2017 05:32
They've done nothing for us apart from make a stressful, miserable experience that much more miserable and stressful
twoheaped · 09/06/2017 05:40
Do you have a choice to go somewhere else that may be less stressful for you?
JoJoSM2 · 09/06/2017 07:10
I'm sorry you're so disappointed. The consultant should have been a lot more careful in his choice of words or perhaps clarified he funding (do they even know that much about funding, though?).
By the sound of it though, will you be eligible to get your scans, egg retrieval for the donor and blastocyst culture on the NHS? Wouldn't that save you a few grand?
JamAndBread · 09/06/2017 07:14
In my area the NHS absolutely don't fund if you need to use a donor
Isthismummy · 09/06/2017 13:11
He should know JoJo He's the head of the unit. He sat there and told me the cycle was free and we would only have to pay agency fees if we chose a donor through one.
I appreciate we still get some things done free, but we don't get what we were told, I.e free treatment.
twoheaped We are going to go abroad. Guys will be no cheaper once we've paid an agency, and the standard of care is so poor. Minimal blood tests/scans etc, cavalier treatment. I get zero impression they have any interest in actually trying their best to help you have a baby.
JamAndBread I know lots of places don't fund ED I'm mad at Guys because they have totally misled us regarding what they are offering. Don't say treatment is free when it very clearly isn't ffs!
Sort for rant. I'm just so pissed off right now.
