Clomid without Monitoring ? Advice please

Can anyone advise please...I have had tests for suspected PCOS and it has come back my testosterone is slightly high and i have 12 immature follicles on my ovaries so the Dr has said its a mild case. No facial hair but i am overweight (BMI 29)

My cycles range are around 38 - 40 Days and i did get a positive OPK on CD 25 last cycle (but not every month)

Anyway she mentioned starting me on 50mg of Clomid but didn't say i needed monitoring? Is this normal? From what i have read many of you have had scans to see if you have actually ovulated? Also will clomid make me ovulate earlier in my cycle?

Thanks in advance!!

What sort of doctor is this; is this your GP?. I would be asking this person why no monitoring was mentioned.

PCOS affects women with it very differently, its a very individualistic disorder. The symptoms can vary between women but the commonality throughout are the cystic follicles on the ovaries.

Would not use OPKs as they are pretty much useless when it comes to PCOS, these kits can simply read the increased levels of LH present.

You should be monitored whilst on clomid as its quite powerful stuff. Also if you are not monitored you have no way of knowing whether its working as it should (clomid's main job is to make the ovaries work harder). You ideally need both blood tests (clomid can further increase LH levels) and ultrasounds (to check if an egg has left the ovary). Be persistent and do not be afraid to ask questions.
