WWYD? Ovulation induction vs IVF?

Hi everyone,

I would love you to help me choose what to do as I'm preparing for my third attempt and am undecided!

Background- 33, Hypothalamic amenorrhea, have DS1 from successful first round of ovulation induction using high dose menopur (took 40 days! )
Have just had 1x failed menopur induction cycle then 1x ectopic pregnancy from the second- I didn't lose my tubes but one is very inflamed and I'm worried that the risk of another ectopic will be really high

Mentally I am also really struggling, due to the fact my cause of infertility is basically my own fault from extreme dieting when I was 14 I blame myself. I have found myself getting into a binge eating cycle and gained a stone since the start of my first cycle last August and I've lost so much confidence. I just want to get pregnant as soon as possible and am so scared of another ectopic as it was awful and I was in hospital for a week. I know IVF isn't a guarantee either but hoping my chances are higher.

What would you do? Going to see my doctor next week at guys and need to decide! She thinks one more round ovulation induction but Im not sure

I think you really need your doctors input. I think I am right in saying the risk of ectopic can be higher with IVF and you need to find out about that.

At your age though I probably would try ovulation indication again. I had 2 ectopics and one thing I can say about it is that the second was not so bad - it was caught early and I'd had surgery well before 6 weeks. They removed the crap tube then and I went on to have a normal (successful) pregnancy.

I've also heard that chance of ectopic is higher with IVF. In addition, the process takes quite a while and you're more likely to fail than succeed. Given that you managed to get pregnant super quickly with ovulation induction, I'd lean toward that too but seek professional opinion first. Also, you don't sound very happy to say the least so some counselling could be of benefit.

Hello there You're the first person I've come across on MN with the same diagnosis as me! I'm currently BFing my daughter who was conceived on the third round of ovulation induction (also using Menopur) TBH I'm not sure what to advise (I don't know a huge amount about IVF) other than say my clinic said OI usually works on the third attempt.

I think I will go for another round of ovulation induction unless my doctor advises otherwise next week!
