Does anyone want to talk about IUI?

We've got unexplained Infertility and so far all the tests have come back as they should, levels as they should etc. Will likely be put on the waiting list for Ivf in a couple of months at our next appointment, but have been considering IUI in the meantime...

My Dr said unless you were using frozen / donor sperm, or had very very mild male factor, IUI was a waste of money

If you don't have any male factor then the success rates were broadly the same as timed intercourse, and told me there was no point paying him to squirt the swimmers in just a few inches higher up than if the goods were delivered the old fashioned way

If you have moderate to severe male factor then IVF with ICSI is needed

The wash might help very mild male factor but otherwise I'd personally save your cash

Thanks that's interesting, will be speaking to the clinic more at our appointment but their success rate is very good so will ask how that is split over same sex couples, and those in our situation, as that will obviously skew the results.

Ask if they're comparing a stimulated monitored cycle with a trigger and timed intercourse with IUI

You have to compare like with like

I had 3 stimulated IUIs and didn't work for me unfortunately. I'm unexplained too. The success rates given to me by my hospital was pretty much the same as timed intercourse like banana says. I had mine on NHS but if you are private I would probably save my money for the IVF! Good luck whatever you decide! It does work for some people.

IUI didn't work for me. IVF did.

Male factor here and it worked. I miscarried but that's obviously not related. I don't know whether it would have worked again or we just got amazingly lucky (and then very unlucky) as we cut our losses and went straight to IVF with ICSI. Which worked second time.

We also have unexplained infertility. We are having stimulated IUI monitored with trigger. Got pregnant first try but having seen a heart beat at 6 weeks it was gone by 8. One second cycle now, had insemination on Friday so we shall see in about two weeks. Here in Switzerland three rounds of IUI are covered under basic health insurance but IVF is not covered at all, so for us it makes sense to at least try the IUI.

Unexplained infertility here, first round of IUI resulted in my lovely great big nearly 15-year-old twins!

Hi. I was waiting on my period this month to start our first round of IUI. My period never came and I got my positive result. Sadly I miscarried the following week at 5 weeks, which broke our hearts as we thought we had managed it naturally after nearly 3 years ttc. To make matters worse, I now need to have 3 natural periods before we can start IUI. I'm gutted we cant start sooner! Anyone else had a similar experience?
