IVF on NHS

We've been ttc for 18 months.

I am 39 and husband 40.

Had 2 chemical miscarriages at 5 weeks.

Did all the tests and all appears fine.

My GP has referred me to Guys Hospital to see if they will offer me IVF.

Guys hospital criteria is: woman under 40, no children and couple most have been trying for 3 years (!). They don't take into account miscarriages only love births.

We have only been TTC for 18 months, I assume when I tell hospital this, they will send us away, but if I return when I have been ttc for full 3 years, I'll be 40 so will not be eligible....

Will the hospital take my age now into consideration?

What should I do?

If through the NHS, then the criteria are usually through your CCG. Is it Guys in London? Myself and my partner have been trying for less than three years and are with Guys.

Where have you read it's three years?

I phoned Guys Hospital in London today and they said their criteria is that couple should have been ttc for 3 years.

I'm confused because the funding won't come from them. It's your local CGC.

They said its definitely 3 years.

I am about to start NHS ivf at Guys.

Dp and I had only been trying for six months when we were referred. We started investigations with Guys in September and turned out we have low motility and low amh.

I think you need to go to the appointment and see what they say op.

Ttc for three years would make no sense if there's an issue preventing conception surely?

I couldn't have wasted 3 years trying. It would have been pointless.

I was 37 when referred btw and 38 now.

It's 2 years usually with the NHS before they refer you. Normally women over 35 get referred quicker.
If you think it will put you back, explain to them the situation or tell them it's been 2 years what they won't know won't hurt them

I don't think this is right. Our GP referred us at twelve months and we saw the first consultant one month later. We booked a hycosy and second semen analysis soon thereafter and are being referred straight away to IVF. We have been trying for 14 months.

The consultant you see will look at all of your results (bloods, scans, SA, etc) and determine when/if IVF is right. We are at Guy's on the NHS and were never told it would be three years. Our first consultant said she would refer us if we didn't get pregnant by month 18 or so. Our second consultant referred us immediately because of problems with my hycosy. I would recommend that you get your appointments as soon as possible. They will definitely take your age into consideration.
