How much is IVF + ICSI?

We've just been told by the NHS consultant that we need IVF + ICSI. DH has low morphology.

We don't get referred until May and then the waiting list is 6-8 months, so the earliest we would start treatment would be December.

We are both pretty devastated.

We are spending our savings on property right now and will have nothing left for IVF. We will have to save again.

Does anyone know how much on average IVF+ICSI costs? I understand it can be cheaper in Europe than in the UK?

Def worth looking into. Clinic is about 15/20mins drive from
Airport

Thanks for all the info, Reprofit in Czech Republic seems to be highly regarded and a reasonable price. I'm going to get in touch I think and collect some more info.

We used donor eggs at IVI Alicante. Two rounds cost £10k. But our 2 year old son is priceless x

MrsDarcy4092 · 06/03/2017 06:12

You need to carefully check your local Ccg assisted conception policy. In our area we're entitled to 2 rounds but any private we have they take off of that allowance.

kwick · 06/03/2017 06:42

@Cutesbabasmummy congratulations on your DS! How far is IVI from Alicante airport?

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/03/2017 06:46

@mrsdarcy that sounds unfair

So if NHS ivf waiting list is 18mths as was for me years ago , then if you pay private for one go you lose a NHS go 😡😡😡

kwick · 06/03/2017 07:38

@Blondeshavemorefun as a single woman I did not even qualify for NHS treatment. None of this is fair Sad

MrsDarcy4092 · 06/03/2017 07:49

That's definitely the case in my area. Your entitled to two goes and if you pay for one the NHS will only give you one, if you pay for 2 you don't get any.

I'm 2 years waiting now but I totally understand it. The NHS does not have an endless pot of money and they want to ensure they are helping those who really need it as they genuinely can't save up or ask family to help pay.

I think lots of the rules on ivf funding are unfair but this one I can understand to some extent.

Londonjam · 06/03/2017 08:28

How do you find that out? I find it so hard to get anything on CCG allowances online..

@kwick. I'm sorry to read this. I was entitled to NHS when with my dh but he sadly died and literally few weeks later got the letter saying it was our turn and top of list

Double blow :(

When I met my now df as he had kids all in their 20's I lost my
NHS go

I've always said that people can save up for one go of private ivf. Yes at £6/7k it's a lot - cheaper abroad

But if being parents is your dream you will manage it - by overtime - saving - loans - credit cards - no holidays for a year or two etc

Obv the only real downfall is that unlike taking out a loan for a kitchen or car etc - ivf has no guarantees so you could pay out the money and have nothing

That happened 4 times to df and I but as said previously 5th hit the jackpot

Cutesbabasmummy · 06/03/2017 09:17

Kick IVI Alicante is about 30 mins x

MrsDarcy4092 · 06/03/2017 09:28

Do you know which ccg you come under? If you do google them and send them and email asking them to send you their assisted conception policy. They don't make it easy to find but mine emailed it over to me. I'm glad I got it as I then realised the gp had not done what they should have. Hardly anyone knows the policy!

Londonjam · 06/03/2017 10:12

Mrsdarcy I think I've found it. We are Haringey. We get one cycle plus two frozen transfers. Am I right in thinking frozen transfers stand an equally good chance??

We can pay for two private cycles and keep our NHS one. If we pay for three or more we lose it.

This is okay - I was thinking we would pay for one or two before NHS kicks in in December.

Camden down the road get three cycles funded! I cannot really believe this random inequality exists - I had heard about the postcode lottery before but seeing it like that really does make it quite unbelievable and shocking.

You know, I know you would loose the wisdom of anything gained from a private cycle but the NHS don't need to know if it interferes with your funded rounds. They never asked if I I paid private and I never told them (I moved house and thus trusts when I got pregnant anyway but I wouldn't have told them had t hailed)

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/03/2017 12:04

@London jam - many clinics abroad and some uk are now thinking fet is better

Gives you body a chance to recover from stims and ec and then do transfer the following month

Plus if embryos survives freezing and defrosting they say it's a stronger one .....

There was a study I read and fet success were 1% more then fresh cycles ......

But can't find it now 😡

3 fresh failed
1 fet failed
2nd fet so 5th try is kicking me madly - almost 37w 😍

Look at results of clinic for preg and live birth rate.

Then fresh and fet cycles

Some sneakily use preg results but don't mention all Those who sadly have no heart /sac at 7w or mc before 20w

So you think wow (example) 47% got preg but if you delve further maybe 33% actually made a live birth .....

kwick · 06/03/2017 12:13

How awful @Blondeshavemorefun

Thanks @Cutesbabasmummy

Londonjam · 06/03/2017 13:32
