Abysmal sperm results

Just got sperm results. We already knew they would be bad as we've had previous semen analysis following hubby's testicular cancer. So we are planning to go abroad for ivf (Reprofit), but weren't prepared for just how bad:
Count 0.1 million /ml
Progressive motility 28%
Morphology 0%
Vitality 53%

Please someone tell me icsi could still work? I'm sitting here absolutely distraught 😩

Amazingly we conceived naturally and have a toddler already, hence why we're going private for ivf. How our little girl was conceived I'll never know. Thanks for any advice xx

Hi Scottishgirl, I'm sure one of the ladies here with more experience than me will chime in, but I think that ICSI is designed for situations like yours. They will pick one healthy sperm and inject it into an egg, so you don't have to worry about numbers. I think that the motility doesn't matter, since they inject the sperm into the egg. The 0% morphology means that all of the sperm are not shaped correctly. But, when they do a SA, they just take a tiny sample and spread it out over a grid and check that small bit (maybe 100 sperm or so). 0.1 million/ml still means 100,000 per ml, and the fact that you have a daughter already means is probably a good sign. Did you conceive your daughter after your husband's radiation? Can you talk to Reprofit about the results and chances?

Thanks so much for your reply. Yes we conceived afterwards and his count has been 0.1 million ever since treatment, so she was a little miracle. The morphology has thrown us, to read 0% is devastating. I was thinking that having none that look normal would mean icsi wouldn't even be worth while, but perhaps it's just the shell that looks abnormal and the dna inside could be OK. Yes will speak with Reprofit, fingers crossed they think there is hope. Feels like a very long journey ahead... Thanks again for providing hope! Xx

Ask them to add in PICSI treatment if possible - it's about another £150 and helps to choose the most mature 'best' sperm if they can get a sample that's good enough. Also, have you added vitamins in? It did help my DH to use fertilaid, vitamin c and co enzyme 10 (and reduce alcohol) for 3 months before sample.

Thanks Blue! He's been on Wellman conception for 5 years and doesn't drink, gave up his passion for cycling, cool showers etc... Not tried co-enzyme 10, is that worth adding in do you think? Will also look into picsi! Thank!
I'm just terrified I'll go through a cycle, fly out to Czech republic for EC and then they tell us sperm is useless and eggs would be wasted :-(

You can bank sperm before egg collection? We considered it but never did ). It's really cheap to fly over there?

I personally would add in co enzyme and vitamin c (both have published research evidence) it won't always work but it's worth throwing that extra at it?

I bought mine online because it does need to be a certain type of coenzyme (needs to absorb in a certain way) but I just can't remember what it is! So sorry. Have a google or ask on the infertility boards (I took it too as it's supposed to help egg quality)

Oh if you near London I'm sure Reprofit have a sister clinic where your DH can give his sample and get it frozen and sent over to Reprofit as a back up in case the live sample on the day is not good enough

Oh that's fantastic! My husband commutes into London daily for work so could do samples, thank you for this information! I'm just awaiting my amh result and then we're sending off all the results to Reprofit to get the protocol, so at that point I'll see what they suggest. I'm swinging madly between excitement and fear that it won't work... Thanks so much! x
