Infertility

Cyprus for our ivf treatment

Hello all,

Not been around a great deal as had a lot going on in life in general - moving house, working, being ill and imminently becoming grandparents (DH has 2 adult children from a previous marriage).

DH and I have been together almost 3 years, ttc for 2.5 of that time and had all the tests offered to us. All come back normal for age (I'm 45 now, he's 48) except low AMH suggesting poor ovarian reserve and probable low egg count. NHS consultant said only choice was privately funded donor ivf (no NHS treatment as was 43 by then).

Anyway, after some soul searching we decided to go with 1 cycle of ivf and started looking into costs, success rates etc. Found UK out of our budget range so started exploring international options. Well, it appears not only have we found a clinic but, we've had initial discussions with the team - patient coordinator and consultant - and are looking at treatment in the autumn. Success rates in our age group are fantastic (75% average for detectable heart beat at 8 weeks post transfer) and the price is competitive.

Have got an appointment with our gp coming in to discuss the investigations we need doing before we go to Cyprus and to see how we go about organising them, what they'll cost etc.

Really excited to think we've got the chance of parenthood ahead of us.

OP does Cyprus allow you to see baby photos of donor? I know Ukraine does, but I do not wish to travel there as recent spammers have really put me off. I have been considering S Africa.

Hi Spinduffy, I got basic information about donor. Wasn’t offered, but also didn’t ask for, photos of ED so not sure if you could.

OP, you say you are staying in Kyrenia. I hope that doesn't mean you're getting your IVF treatment in the Turkish occupied area of Cyprus?

Why’s that, Counterpoint? Kyrenia was lovely and it’s hard to believe we’ve been home a week already!!

Because that part of the island is under Turkish military occupation (about 40,000 Turkish troops according to reliable British sources) and there are no health and safety procedures that can be monitored under EU standards.
The free parts of the island have very high standards and I believe the Turkish occupied areas are feeding off the good reputation of the EU controlled part of Cyprus.
It's an illegal occupation and as much as Turkey wants their illegal occupation to be accepted as normal, there are many undesirable undercurrents to consider for anyone else that might be tempted.

The free areas of Cyprus are perfectly OK. They have the highest EU standards.

OP, I was only concerned if you had your treatment done in the unregulated clinics under Turkish rule, that's all, since you said you stayed in Kyrenia (which is illegally occupied by Turkey).

I see there are a number of deleted comments.

Whilst I don't want to derail your thread with the politics (and your possible good news, for which I sincerely wish you all the very best), I do believe people undergoing such treatments abroad should become informed.

I've now looked up the clinic you mentioned and whilst it's in Nicosia (the capital of the legitimate Republic of Cyprus), I notice the clinic is in the illegally occupied section. Also, I notice it is NOT accredited by the legitimate Ministry of Health of the Republic of Cyprus. The accreditation they use seems to be merely mimicking the legitimate EU country of Cyprus.

The deleted comments are trolls. There are plenty of them around. They come on here with bad English and bad grammar pretending to be infertile, eventually either they or a sock puppet will start advertising the dodgy Ukrainian clinic they’re actually here to advertise.

Sorry you have had bad news, OP. There's always hope for the future, so good luck.

@fabulous01 "I went abroad to SERUM in Athens and I now have twins. Best decision of my life to go abroad. Good luck"

Would you recommend this clinic? I see there's a mumsnet thread on it.

It should certainly be up to EU standards/accreditation (unlike, I suppose, the ones in the Turkish occupied territories of Cyprus that seem to be spamming the Internet when you Google ).
