Miscarriage after IVF

Hi- hoping for some women out there who have been through similar as could use some hope right now.

My husband and I were lucky enough for our first IVF cycle to work, however I had a missed miscarriage and we lost the baby at 9 weeks 4 days.

Has anyone else gone through a miscarriage after IVF? Feeling desperate tonight 😔

Just to add: the fact it worked first time should definitely give you hope. My doctor told me that the fact that your body has made taken that step is a positive sign.

I miscarried at 6w after my first IVF cycle. It was a bitter blow and I remember so clearly the devastation I felt, heightened by the knowledge of everything we'd been through to get there and everything we'd have to go through to get there again.
I was desperate, then sad, then furious with the world.
My frozen cycle failed, then we changed clinics (partly due to a relocation) - before we started the next cycle routine tests showed a hydrosalpinx and adhesions which would probably have prevented a successful pregnancy. I had a laparoscopy then a fresh cycle - only two embryos transferred but one of them is now 5 years old.
Take any follow-ups you may be offered, and please don't give up hope - as PP said it worked once, and it can again. Most importantly be kind to yourself.

I've been through one miscarriage after my second IVF cycle (10w) and then a very early mc at 5w after my second. Sadly both embryos were chromosomally normal so the problem is me.

It's very hard but try to take comfort from the fact that you did get successful implantation and the likelihood is that it was a 'bad egg' and that there is every chance that with a good egg you will be successful next time

Clinics are supposed to provide access to at least one session of free counselling, I think, worth asking your clinic about this

I feel like I really needed to hear from people with experiences of miscarriage following IVF as it's different... in one way I feel like I was in the first trimester for 2 years, and in another way I never truly believed I was pregnant. Hi, i know how awful you are feeling and want you to know you are not alone.
I have had 2 failed fresh cycles of ICSI, then with an FET I had a biochemical pregnancy. Then with our third fresh cycle we conceived and had an early scan which showed a yolk sac and fetal pole. I thought my heart would burst with joy. Then I started bleeding and had a miscarriage at 5+ weeks.
I still don't know if there is something fundamentally wrong with us, or if we are just unlucky. I don't think anyone can answer that.

I had a MC (5+ weeks) after our first round of IVF. We were also told by the consultant that the fact that the first round did give us positive pregnancy test should be looked at as a great hope for the future treatments.

It is not a guarantee, of course, but please do not give up. We are now 22+5 weeks pregnant after second frozen cycle.

Also, there is an idea lingering around that frozen cycles tend to be more successful with some clinics now offering to participate in all freeze trials, meaning that you do not do the transfer after a fresh cycle but freeze all embryos and come back after you first period to start FET.

I think this is in early stages but some results do indicate that it might be preferable for some people to take this route to minimise MC.

With todays mind, I think I would have preferred all freeze if offered. But on the other hand you think why waste this chance of a transfer as it clearly could potentially work.

I'm so sorry to read this. It's a terrible time. We had IVF twice, first time worked and we had a little girl (now 10!). Second time also worked but I had a missed miscarriage at 8 weeks which we discovered at the 12 week scan. It is devastating. I know that all miscarriages are terrible but I do think the impact of one after IVF, even on a subjective level, feels so much worse. If it helps at all at this time, after my d&c, I didn't even have a proper cycle and got pregnant with daughter no. 2 (now 8) less than 8 weeks later. After seven years in total of infertility treatment it was a bit of a shock. Hold on to the hope that your body can do it and will do it again.
