Failed IVF/ Chemical Pregnancy/ Early Miscarriage

Hi all,
Im not sure if I have done this right as its my first post on here but here goes.

So we have been TTC for 2 years now and have just failed our first IVF cycle. We tested positive after the 2ww and then 5 days later i had a bleed, we did a pregnancy test and it came up negative. Spoke to the nurse at the NHS ivf clinic at UCLH where we are having treatment and she advised that we have had and a very early miscarriage/ chemical pregnancy.

We are now due to go in at some point in Jan (waiting for appt) to have a follow-up with the doctor and start our Frozen Embryo transfer cylce.

I was wondering if any of you ladies have experienced the same and what you have been told as to why the chemical pregnancy occured in the first place.

Also has anyone had success doing a FET after having a chemical?

We had two day 5 blastocysts put back in and neither of them made it this time round so i am really worried that the frozens may not work either...I am 37 and hubby is 34.

I am in virtually exactly the same boat as you, our IVF failed this morning . So sorry - I know how it feels. Hopefully someone will be along with positive news for both of us!

Hi Sandy, so sorry you've found yourself here

I had 4 x icsi cycles last year, 2 were unsuccessful and 2 were chemical pregnancies (both FETs). The clinic told us that it's usually the body's way of letting go an embryo that wont become a healthy pregnancy. I know it's not a very delicate way of putting it and probably notice comfort, but I believd that's often the reason it happens. There's nothing at all you could have done to make the outcome different.

It's good that you have the chance tright do a frozen cycle - I found I felt much better during our FETs and they were the ones where I managed to actually get pregnant, even though they didn't stick.

It's devastating as you often get full on pregnancy symptoms (I did and they lasted for 2 weeks). How are you feeling? Xxxx

Feeling pretty rubbish tbh....also had all the symptons, sore books, bloated etc etc. Just been round to tell my mum and she is devastated also which just makes me feel worse.

Can I ask, did you ask your clinic to do any additional tests? I am also worried that the next ones won't stick and that we go though the whole thing again...also did you put one or two back in? Sorry if I'm being intrusive.

sorry to hear Sandy-I am going through the same thing I think-BFP on 22nd after a 5day FET, felt all the pregnancy symptoms until Wednesday evening when I had cramps on my right side and across the stomach-I tested again on Thursday and it was negative-the clinic nurse said to keep taking the pessaries etc and test again which was also negative but as of yet I've had no bleed which is weird-I don't feel the same though-the tiredness has gone but boobs still sore!
I cant understand why as the clinic said it was a grade A1 egg-but I guess theres not always a reason.

Remember that even in young women only 50% of blasts are likely to be chromosomally normal. And external embryo quality doesn't say anything about its genetic integrity

I miscarried a chromosomally normal embryo so we had our 4 frozen embryos genetically tested. All were 'top quality' grading. All were genetically abnormal. Two would have failed to implant but one would have likely implanted but miscarried

Third round we had our embryos tested and we got 6 normals out of 9 blasts tested. Again, the 3 abnormals were all top quality

A lot of IVF is a numbers game, waiting to get a good egg

In some cases like mine, it's more complicated, as I've had two losses of chromosomally normal embryos, but for most people there is a very good chance that if the right egg comes up, it'll turn into a person

I am sorry for yr loss. There are various reasons why women experience mcs and cp. A woman, who has experienced 3 and more recurrent mcs/pc might be recommended additional test to find out whether there is any serious underlying condition. If it occurs that genetic is the issue (chromosomal aneuploidy), a woman might be advised to undergo ivf with PGS NGS diagnosis to increase her chances of getting pregnant. Good luck with yr cycling
