Infertility
Male infertility, FSH to high

Hi All,
My husband had his sperm test where it showed there is no swimmers what so ever. His FSH is 18.6 where norm is 18.1 and his testosteron in normal. Doctor gave us referral to IVF clinic. I need to go through whole process and when I am ready they will do biopsy on my husband and if there will be sperm they will use it and if not then no. It all sounds really pointless to me. why do I have to go through whole process if there is big chance that there is no sperm. has any one had similar problem? I would appreciate any advise at this point. Thank you

Hi,
My husband has a similar problem. 18 months ago, we were told that there were no sperm in his samples and we got the shock of our lives! He then had follow up hormone blood tests, which all came back normal. He also had a genetic test done, which showed that he was a carrier of the cystic fibrosis gene, which apparently can cause blocked tubes, meaning that the sperm couldn't get out. When we discovered that I was not a carrier, we decided to proceed with surgical sperm extraction and then ICSI. However, our clinic insisted that the sperm was extracted and frozen first, so there was no risk that I would go through the process only to discover that there was no sperm available. Even though, in my husband's case, it was very likely that sperm would be found, my clinic still said that SSR should come first. If I were you, I would push for this, as it would be very difficult going through all the injections and egg collection to discover that sperm isn't available.
We have had two rounds of ICSI so far, but no success yet. Everything has gone very smoothly and we seem to have been unlucky, so we will keep trying.
Do let me know if there is anything else I can do to help and I will keep my fingers crossed for you!

Hi
Thank you very much for your reply. I am very frustrated because doctor told us that really they don't want to see my husband until biopsy day. So no one will even look at him knowing that there is something wrong. What if he has some kind of syndrome that he should know about??? We live in UK. Can I ask where are you from ? Adding to that we managed to book appointment to urologist that we were waiting for few months for and we have been told today that it has been cancelled. I don't know who to turn next.
