Hi All

Looking for a bit of advice please. Im 28 years old, havent had a proper cycle in a few years periods getting lighter and eventually havent had one in nearly 12 months. Got blood results back and advised borderline (tested hormone levels to check for Premature ovarian failure)

Yes i knew something was wrong so i went to my GP. I was not expecting this. I know it hasnt been confirmed yet have another appointment in the AM but i would just like to have information before i go.

Has anyone else been through this so early? Did you have options? I would love kids in the future but am single. Do i have to act now?

Hi OP, I don't have much advice to give, but didn't want to leave your thread with no answers.

Has your GP said they will refer you to fertility clinic? Really push hard for that as they will be able to give you much better advice.

I'm sorry you're going through this. I found out yesterday that I have reduced ovarian reserve and it's a truly agonising feeling. Good luck for tomorrow.

You need a proper gynae referral.

Premature ovarian failure us very rare, but might mean that you will be unable to produce healthy ova, or any at all. But you can still have DC via a donor or surrogate. If there is hope you dan produce ova, then freezing now is also an option.

But they also need more detailed tests (one blood test does not tell you enough, you need a series). There are still other explanations. But you are way better off under a specialist, not a GP.

Hi, im so sorry you're going through this, sending hugs. I was diagnosed with premature ovarian failure 4 years ago, it was a horrible time getting your head around it.

Going with my blood results, which were 0.07, my options were ivf with donor egg or adoption as my eggs are such poor quality.

I had looked into egg freezing years before my diagnosis when I was younger and single and never did it as the thawing process was highly unsuccessful. In hindsight I should have looked into it more seriously and done embryo freezing when I had healthier egg reserve to do so. You can use sperm donors to create an embryo using your egg. The thawing process of embryos looked to be much more successful. Its worth looking into all options as early as possible. You don't know what's round the corner, do what's right for you.

We firstly looked into ivf with donor eggs but decided it wasn't the route for us and are now adopting and so excited to meet our child, there are many options out there to have a family. We went to three private fertility hospitals and found their consultants more helpful in advising of all options and treatments than NHS as they have limitations.
