Has anyone tried accupuncture and been successful in falling pregnant?

I did accupuncture for the first time during my last round of IVF which resulted in DC2, now a year old. Never did it before and had successful (IVF) pregnancy with DC1 without it.

I'm not sure whether it was the actual accupuncture that worked for me or whether it just helped me feel I was doing something differently from previous failed cycles. I had got to a stage when I needed a reason to believe that it might work this time when it hadn't before. I also found it very relaxing and often fell asleep which, at a stressful time, was definitely a bonus for me.

Hi Coconut... I did acupuncture with my last round of IVF and I'm currently 18 weeks pregnant.

Again can't say if it was the addition of a acupuncture that made this round work after 2 BFN rounds or the fact that I changed consultant etc etc but I found it really relaxing and had a great acupuncturist and my weekly sessions were almost an escape for me during the build up and treatment. She even came to my house to carry out my sessions after egg collection so I didn't have to come to her

My DH is convinced it made the difference though x

I did it for our fresh cycle in 2014 and got pregnant. I didn't do it for our recent frozen cycle and got pregnant, although sadly lost the pregnancy very early on. I feel a bit bad that I'm not doing it for DD's sibling, but I don't know how I'm supposed to find the time or money to do it this time around! I did it weekly from about four months before IVF until I gave birth (when I still had a shred of hope of making it happen naturally). It was £40 a session so the amount of money we spent on it was quite high!

A good place to start is to google "fertility acupuncture" along with your location. Zita West accredited therapists are specialists, but mine wasn't trained this way and was brilliant.

I started 12 weeks before my cycle with a 1/2 hour session weekly then I made sure I had a session the night before ET.

I stopped at this though, did not continue after ET or throughout my pregnancy so far. I do however miss the relaxation but mine was £50 a session so an expensive relaxation tool!

I saw a local business, researched a few in the area and went with the lady I saw on a recommendation. She was great, really clued up and adjusted the treatment throughout my cycle x

Sorry OP but for balance I have to chime in with my tuppence: acupuncture is woo bollocks. The only upside is destressing which can be as easily achieved by walking outside in green areas for 30 mins. £50+ for 45 mins of "chi alignment" is a rip off and plays into ttc desperadoes anxiety. It's snake oil and I'm very angry I wasted hundreds of quid on it.

Women who are going to get pregnant naturally, get pregnant naturally with or without woo doctors. Fertility treatment does or doesn't work. There is no rhyme or reason. Sorry but I've not found anything peer reviewed with conclusive findings that has convinced me it's a good use of time or money. They even say it's a "complimentary" treatment ie not a treatment in its own right. At best it's peddled to the worried well/fertile; at worst practitioners dissuade their clients from seeing a real doctor.

Following this thread with interest as I had an initial meeting with acupuncturist today prior to starting my 4th IVF round next month. I suffer with thinish lining so thought it might benefit me. The acupuncturist is keen to look at getting me on some Chinese herbs also....bit sceptical....anyone any experience of this?!?

Hi glummymummy I too am starting 4th cycle soon and I too saw an acupuncturist today...He also wants me to do herbs but I said no to that as there is no evidence if herbs helping but there is support for acupuncture. ...I am terrified of needles so I need to get past that first. ...

Where about are you? I am in London and the prices I have been quoted for acupuncture are horrendous. ...can anyone recommend an acupuncturist in London?

This thread popped up in Active - I had acupuncture before I fell pregnant with my eldest. I had been told by two doctors, over a 5 year period, and after various tests for PMS symptoms, that I wasn't ovulating, but had a year wait before further tests could be carried out.

After 6 further months of horrendous PMS, a friend suggested acupuncture.

I had 6 months of treatment, my periods went from irregular (anything between 4-6 weeks, with 2-4 weeks of PMS), to a regular 28 day cycle, no PMS symptoms at all.

On the 6th month, the acupuncturist said, in her opinion, I was sorted and that I shouldn't have any problem conceiving. I fell pregnant that month.

It wasn't particularly relaxing, in fact I found it very draining, but I have not suffered from PMS since, and had no trouble conceiving ds2 either.

I am also a bit sceptical about herbs but would be good to hear if anyone else has found these useful? I only have a month before starting treatment (frozen cycle) and probably two months before any embryo transfer if we get that far, so have maybe left it a bit late. The cost is the main factor really, and the fact that I could go through all this and then our embryos don't thaw!

Hi, didn't use accupuncture for ttc but did used it to turn a baby who was in the breech position. I was really sceptical but desperate. It worked, so I would say go for it and good luck.

I feel your pain. We tried for over 4 years while everyone around us was getting pregnant and having babies. I went to have Accupuncture but found out I had polyps so stopped it until I had them removed then before I could save the money again we fell pregnant, I'm now 7 weeks and I NEVER thought it would happen. I believe it was me not thinking about it that it happened. I did the old classic and tried to not think about it but really I was until my house became chaos and I had to think about that instead and that's when it happened. It will happen for you, if it can happen for me, I have faith it will be so for you. (Sorry about the long msg) :) wishing u all the luck in the world

Hope acupuncture works for you OP, after reading in to it a little more - not totally conceived it increases the changes but as I am waiting for the monitoring clinic to open again before I start my treatment of clomid, I booked my first session for this Sunday!
