ICSI - how long?

I havea friend who is going through this and either she doesn't listen to her doctors OR they have not really kept her fully informed as to 'what happens next and when'.

How long from taking the ovulation stimulation hormones does it generally take to having the follicles extracted?

And then how long before follicles become blastocysts and then implanted?

What is the success rate for first time ICSI?

They have everything on this one! It's free but they can't afford another run at it.

I have been given a timeline by my clinic... Something not right if she isn't sure what's going on! Although (forgive me for saying this) I am being deliberately vague on timescales with our IVF cycle, as well meaning as everyone is, it's going to be hard enough without feeling like I need to update everyone. If she has said she isn't sure though then I am sure that's not the case!
Anyway..
Usually 10days of stimming (adjusted to suit individuals)
Then egg collection.
The embryos will be transferred back after 2,3,4,5 days... Blastocyst is when you get to day 5 but many have transfers before day 5, it depends on your clinic as well as other factors!
Success? wouldnt we all love to know that!!!!

First day of period would be day 1 of cycle. Usually start taking the stims from end of day 2, and she'll have scans from day 6 or 7 to check growth. Usually the follicles will get to around 18mm or so by day 12 when the HCG injection is given, and then egg collection would be around day 14. This can vary by a few days depending on how her ovaries react to stimulation - some women over stimulate and then end up costing for a few days, so collection is delayed. The critical bit of timing is the HCG injection which has to happen 36 hours before egg collection.

Assuming egg collection and ICSI goes successfully then embryo transfer takes place 3-5 days after egg collection.

Success rates? Depends on age, and other factors, but around 1 in 3 is she is under 35, going down to 1 in 5 if she is 38. It is a shame that they can only have one go, but hope it works out for them.
