I know loads of people it's worked first time for, including me, twice
So it can, and does, happen. But equally lots of people have long and difficult journeys. Try not to get your hopes up too much for first time success. View it more as diagnostic so the clinic can figure out what works for you in terms of drug regime etc.
And good luck

TipBoov · 19/07/2017 08:52

Ive had two rounds of IVF, both successful. Good luck.

Jamon · 19/07/2017 08:56

This thread is giving me hope. Currently waiting out the NHS waiting list to start our first cycle.

GirlcalledJames · 19/07/2017 11:53

It worked for my fiancée first time, and I know two other couples in the same position.
The first round provides information about how your body reacts, though, so can be useful even if it doesn't work.

cherryontopp · 19/07/2017 21:39

I'm 10 weeks pregnant with my first attempt at IVF.
Over 2 years of trying, PCO but otherwise healthy.

Good luck OP

Chattycat78 · 19/07/2017 21:43

It worked for us first time too. I had low ovarian reserve and was told my chances of it working were diminished...Smile

GlitteryGlitter · 19/07/2017 22:04

Worked on our 1st attempt here! DD is coming up to 1 now Grin

Same as you unexplained infertility, both otherwise healthy. We are in the minority of other infertile couples we know though.

Remember IVF has roughly a 75% success rate over 3 cycles

Purplelipgloss · 24/07/2017 23:39

Worked for me first time 😊 Male factor infertility. My baby is due in October and I am so excited.

Good luck to anybody going through IVF.

Coastalcommand · 25/07/2017 20:50

Worked first time for us too. Nine eggs retrieved, two embryos, one put back in and she's sitting next to me now, eating her dinner. Eight months old and our absolute joy! One frostie left :)

drinkyourmilk · 25/07/2017 20:54

My miracle 4 month old is trumping away in her crib beside me. 1st ivf attempt.
Fingers crossed for everyone with fertility problems. It's so fucking hard and unfair -and I appreciate how lucky I've been.

Wholovesorangesoda · 27/07/2017 11:56

These are lovely to read. I think when you face infertility, you get so used to bad news that you sort of expect things not to work. I read a thread on another forum (cant remember where or when unfortunately!) With a poll where of all the respondents, about 45% got pregnant first go and a pretty large percent on the second go. I was surprised it was so high as a lot you read online suggests success rates are only arou 27% in any given cycle. I have read that it's about 75-80% of couples will be successful within 3 cycles too. We aim on having 3 then stopping, but would love a first time success (obviously!)

Purplelipgloss · 27/07/2017 12:26

Ahh Soda don't pay attention to the stats. I started obsessing over them so much which now I realise was totally pointless because I got lucky.

You also have to ignore what people say when/if you are faced with negativity. So many people told me that it wouldn't work first time!

Sorry if you've already said this but do you have male factor or is it female? If you are going into it knowing you have three chances with it then that's fantastic, you have such a good chance of success! X

Wholovesorangesoda · 27/07/2017 13:37

You're right purple, we always say it's 50/50 - it will either work or not!!
We have a bit of both (how lucky! Lol) I have pcos and don't ovulate without drugs and OH has a very low count. I have a dd from a previous relationship, too
How far along are you now?

Purplelipgloss · 27/07/2017 14:48

Exactly! We had ICSI for male factor but we did find out in the end that I have a low ovarian reserve and that I also have one 'slow' tube 🙈 So many different factors aren't there.

I am 30 weeks and three days today. It's becoming a lot more real to me now feeling his kicks etc. Very excited and nervous all in one!

When are you going to start your first round? (Again, apologies if you have already said this somewhere).

Lauraqc · 09/08/2017 14:54

Yep! We have boy/girl twins from our first attempt...they were our only two embryos and I made the choice to transfer both and we now have 9m old twins! We had our treatment at Reprofit in the Czech Rep. I always felt that once we actually got that help to get pregnant that I'd be able to carry them...trust your instincts. Good luck.

MotherofA · 09/08/2017 14:55

My friend is pregnant from her first attempt ! Good luck x

PaleAzureofSummer · 09/08/2017 14:57

I know of someone who got pregnant with their first IVF after 12 years of trying. The 12 years did span two different husbands!

Lynnm63 · 09/08/2017 16:00

I had two full cycles and had three babies as a result, twins second time around. Good luck. They tried a frozen embryo transfer between cycles 1 and 2 that failed.

Maci15 · 12/08/2017 08:45

I had my first round of IVF which Was sel funded as we are not eligible for NHS and sadly we found out it did not work 😪 I feel broken both financially and emotionally.
I had only 3 eggs and only one embryo that made it to transfer....
Not sure what to do next. I'm 38 years old and my AMH is 4.2.
Can I improve my egg quality ?

Please any advice would be appreciated .
Thank yoy
