Icsi cancelled only after one week.

Hi all. My DH and I saved really hard to go private for ICSI treatment. We have 4 older boys between us so couldn't do Nhs treatment. My partner had a successful vasectomy reversal but such is our luck it turns out I had a low ovarian reserve. We saved so hard for ICSI treatment then it was cancelled one week in as the prostap injection blocked all my hormones and we only got a small refund. We would need to save thousands again to do ICSI again (shorter protocal). Has anyone had success with Clomid and would GP prescribe? Thanks x

Do you have endo? Prostap is often used for people with endo. I'm not sure what you mean by 'blocked all your hormones'? As a down regulation drug that's exactly what it's supposed to do

Clomid is an ovulation induction drug for if you're not ovulating. If you're already ovulating then the most it's likely to do is coax out another follicle. But not sure why it would be indicated if you're already ovulating

Are you done with IVF or would you try again with another protocol? Prostap isn't a terrific protocol for women with low ovarian reserve so you might well do better on a short protocol

Sorry the bit I left out was IVF abroad, where it's much cheaper!

Hi, thanks for responding. No, I don't have endo just low ovarian reserve. Dr at clinic told us prostap was there procedure. Apparently, it stopped me from producing estogren by blocking it. Dr suggested shorter protocol next time without it. Wish she had done this first round. As we had to go private. We need to save now if we want ivf again. This was our first go. I didn't realise clomid was only if your not ovulating so thank you for that. Back to the drawing board x

Technically Clomid is only for if you're not ovulating but I was given it (wrongly and actually dangerously as they didn't scan me) by NHS gynae to 'give my system a boost'. Dodgy to say the least IMHO, but my impression is it happens relatively often. Am so sorry about your cancelled cycle OP, was it a case of them down-regging you and then not being able to get you to stim properly? I think this can be a worry for older women on long protocol but I guess if it was your first cycle they didn't have anything to go on unfortunately. Wish you all the very best

Yes, that was exactly it. Down reg and didnt stim. Thank you for advice, I hadn't realised that was what Clomid was for.thank you.

What is your FSH? If you have a really low ovarian reserve most clinics won't do IVF without donor eggs
