saliva ovulation tests

Hello all!

Just wondered if anybody had tried the saliva ovulation tests and how accurate they have been for you. I have pcos and urine opks give me false answers and do not work for me.

Can it be affected if on medication (I'm on clomid).

I found them next to useless as I don't get EWCM

If you have PCOS you may find it doesn't work for you as you may get several periods of EWCM in a given cycle as your body tries to ovulate and then doesn't

It's a bit of a lottery as to whether it works for you or not. I think mine was pretty cheap so can't hurt to try I guess

Clomid could will affect it actually

Clomid is an anti oestrogen

The salivary ferning is due to rising levels of oestrogen

What does ewcm have to do with saliva tests??

Such fern tests are a waste of time, effort and money. Do not use.

You should be having blood tests and or ultrasounds done whilst on clomid as this can increase the production of LH markedly. No monitoring is completely unacceptable; you have no real idea then if it is doing what it is supposed to be doing.

Salivary ferning is to do with whether or not the CM also ferns. That's how it works. It's to do with the chemical that's produced that makes the CM the egg white consistency. Fertile CM will show the ferning pattern under a microscope. Same principle for salivary ferning.

I didn't get fertile CM because I had crap oestrogen levels.

And yes you should be monitored on clomid

Clomid can thin the lining so there's no point it making you ovulate if nothing can implant and there's no way you can possibly conceive

I have been left for 3 months without any monitoring. Had my bloods done yesterday which confirmed no ovulation had occurred so now I have hospital on 30th to up my dosage and I will insist they track me this time. Hoping the next few cycles work for me fingers crossed anyway

Cumulative effect of clomid after 3 months is very likely to have thinned the lining

The higher the dose the greater the anti oestrogenic effect

Definitely push them for monitoring.

What if my lining is to thin for now what will they suggest? Iui maybe?

If you're in a monitored cycle they can give you oestrogen tablets to take at the appropriate time. This has to be done at the right time when the follicle is sufficiently mature so the oestrogen doesn't block ovulation. My consultant said we would do this in a natural cycle as I was ovulating but have naturally thin lining. We would also trigger to ensure ovulation occurred

IUI will make no difference as all that does is put the sperm a bit closer to the egg

The fertilised egg still needs to implant

Many women are fine on clomid

But you won't know how it's affected you unless it's monitored
