Sisters egg collection

My darling sis is about to go in for her first egg collection.

I am 1000 miles away, can't think about anything else and am terrified that I will put my foot in it.

Please tell me what you found most helpful/unhelpful...

Just let her know you are thinking of her and keeping everything crossed, and let her update you as and when she wants to. She will appreciate your support as there is not much you can do practically. Maybe send her something nice in the post like a big bar of chocolate or something.

Some people find it a breeze, some painful and traumatic. I had sedation and don't remember a thing but was a bit sore afterwards. I was also shell-shocked as it is a big step in the whole process. I remember crying when I got home because I'd had to leave my embryos at the hospital and they were the closest thing I'd ever had to a baby. She will be on edge from now on as she waits to find out how many embryos survive and what grade they are so just be there for her if she needs you. Remember it may also be a very private time for her and her partner though.

Good luck to her - one of my embryos is nearly 4 weeks old and is currently sucking on my boob as though he has never had food before.... There can be happy endings.

Just tell her you hope it goes okay and send her chocs or flowers? I found mine fine apart from being sore for a couple of days after it. I had sedation and was totally out of it,don't remember a thing!

One of the worst things you can do is do nothing because you feel like you might put your foot in it.
Personally (and I speak from bitter experience) the best thing you can do is listen (properly listen). Ask her how she's feeling and be prepared to respond to anything you might get back.
And for god sake don't offer her your eggs or for that matter your uterus (you'll be surprised how many people do that).

Heidi, people do that???? Eeeeeek!!! We are very close, so I do check in on her regularly (thank goodness for whatsapp!) and send her funnies to keep her smiling.

As others have said- just make sure she knows that you are there. My 2 best friends just text every few days to ask how I was doing and if I needed anything. It really helped- and made me feel less stressed and alone.
