second cancelled ivf!
purple3333 · 15/02/2016 19:59
Hi all, just joined mumsnet. I just failed a second ivf stim, only 2 follicles showed at my stim scan today :-( I only had 2 in my first cycle too. My clinic doctor advised to cancel and start another cycle. I'm 39, do not smoke or drink and try to keep healthy. All bloods were normal so do not understand what the problem is! I have had 2 girls, natural conception (5 and 9 years old). Even my consultant is puzzled and thought my treatment would be a breeze?
Anyone in similar situation can advise anything? Diet? Different methods? etc?
Thank you kindly! Am stressed about starting again.......

Hello (and welcome to MN!)
Do you know your AMH?
How far into the stim cycle were you? (i.e. how many days had you been stimming for?)

Hi Bespoke,
I don't even know my AMH! Was never told.......
I have emailed my clinic doctor, requesting the info.
I stim'd for 6 days and had the stim scan today. Was supposed to get ec done next week monday :-(

Aww, I am sorry...so disappointing
Your AMH and antral follicle count would be really useful pieces of information to have. AMH is a measure of ovarian reserve and is a good predictor of how likely you are to have a successful cycle. Each follicle secretes this hormone so the higher the level of AMH, the greater is your ovarian reserve.
Only 2 follicles following 6 days of stims is on the low side, but if your AMH is low (and it can drop very rapidly in a short space of time) it might be the case that 2 is better than the none that you would get from a cancelled cycle if you see what I mean?
I hate to be gloomy, but the 5 years between your last pregnancy and now may have been the point at which your AMH really took a nosedive (every woman's does at some point towards the end of their fertile years)
Do you know what protocol you were on? And what dosage of stim drugs you were taking?
Did you do anything differently in terms of protocol between the two cycles?
(Sorry for all the questions!)
