Private treatment...how much £ are we talking about?

The doctors are dragging their heels. My bloods have came back showing levels of chlymdia anti bodies, Doc says I may not have the infection now but may have in the past. I asked for an ultrasound and he has to go through the protocol, doing more bloods n semen examples from dp. If I went to a private clinic and asked for an ultra sound how much are we looking at?

I'm afraid I don't know. A lot depends on where you live (ie London clinics tend to cost a bit more than those 'in the regions'). Is there a clinic you have in mind? Maybe give them a call/drop them an email and ask for a rough guide as to their prices?

Me too :) it's maybe worth contacting a few of them. I'm not sure exactly where you are, but Centre for Life, QE at Gateshead and James Cook all have reputable centres that may be able to help you. If you haven't already, maybe also ask this on the forum of the 'Fertility Friends' website, as there's a specific section for the North East.

What I would bear in mind is that it is unlikely you'll go for just an ultrasound if you go to a fertility clinic. You'd probably need to see a consultant, maybe rerun some of the tests or have others. Rather than just the issue in isolation via a fertility clinic. If it is geniunely a stand alone scan you want in order to look for a specific thing then you could look at general private obs/gyn scans instead.

Why do you want an ultrasound? If your issue is chlamydia an u/s won't help. They are £150ish here in central London, so probs cheaper in the NE - maybe £100ish?

No my issue is not chlmydia as I don't have it but have had it in past apparently. So u want an ultra sound to see if it's done any damage to my tubes etc

An ultrasound won't pick up damage to your tubes. You'll need a hycosy for that (and possibly a laproscopy too).

I've looked up a laproscopy and there coming up 2,100!! Just for the test. Through the NHS how long would it be before I get one? .

Well it's a fairly involved thing to do! The first thing to check tubes though is a hycosy (or hysterosalpinogram, to give its full name!).

No idea the waiting time on NHS - I suspect it varies by area. I had mine done privately (covered by insurance) and I could book in straight away.

A hycosy in London is £400-£500.

You have two options:

• you can get a hycosy privately, on its own, for example at this clinic. They could send the results to your GP but they also do consultations there. The only thing is, if you might want fertility treatment soon it might make more sense to have this done at an IVF clinic so your records are up to date and all in the same place.

• you can go for a full fertility check at an IVF clinic. They would check your hormones, ovaries and do a hycosy as well. All in this sort of testing (including consultations) comes in at around a grand in London.

Thanks. I have looked into getting a Hsg test, a dye test to see if there is any blockages it's £350 in my area and £150 for the consultation where they'll take do a pelvic scan and semen samples etc.

Not sure where you are based OP but as you mention James Cook I wondered if you had looked at the London Fertility Clinic in Darlington? They have a price list on their website.

If you're in the North east I wouldn't mess around wasting money at the QE and Centre for Life. I'd go to the London Women's Clinic in Darlington.
I wasted a lot of money going elsewhere and it was like night and day when I went there. I was a very difficult case but I now have our second baby thanks to them.
Cost? I would say £7k including the drugs up to 12 weeks pregnant. I got my laparoscopy on the nhs though.
