Does IVF ever work first time?

I'm starting IVF later this month and getting my hopes up that it'll work first time. I know I need to be realistic, but I'm too excited. Did IVF work for you first time? If so, how old were you and what were your reasons for having IVF?

I'm 34, have one DC (conceived first try four years ago). I've been trying for three years, a few miscarriages - one late one which confirmed chromosomal abnormalities. Were having the eggs screened prior to implantation through IVF this time. Sadly, they've said my ovarian reserve and hormone levels have deteriorated in the time I've been trying - all quite negative this end.

I'm remaining optimistic though.

Also, any IVF tips appreciated.

First of all-I'm very sorry for your losses.

Second, yes it can work first time. I was diagnosed with severe endo-unfortunately in the tubes( both almost entirely blocked) meaning natural conception would almost be impossible. I did IVF at 35 and now have a 3 year old. My second cycle also worked but resulted in a mc. My ovarian reserve Isn't the best either-currently doing another cycle so fingers crossed.

My main advice is primarily around how difficult the 2ww is -I didn't find the meds too challenging but the emotional ups and downs whilst waiting for the pregnancy test were so difficult.

I'm 46 and donor egg IVF worked for me first time.

Yes. I was 34. Reasons for ivf- endometriosis plus variable sperm count/ low normal forms.
DS born after first attempt and have 2 frosties but won't be using them I don't think.

Also we had array cgh done on our embies by Care so similar to what you are having done. It does mean you may have less embies though- I had 21 eggs, 18 fertilised, 8 good enough to test, 5 abnormal, by day 5 I had 3 normal blastocysts left. The best one went back and is now refusing to get dressed to eat his tea. The other 2 were frozen.
I think acupuncture and lots of protein during stims would be my top tips.

mine worked first time. I was 35. Reason: male factor.
The FET with the remaining ones did not work though.

I have just had my 1st cycle of IVF and am currently 5 weeks pregnant. So yes!

But to add a note of reality.....I was in touch with 6 or 7 other ladies on a support website, all of us going through first cycle, and I was the only one who got pregnant that time.

Yes in 1996. My expectations were low.
My DTs are 18.

It did for me nearly 12 years ago. Just before our first go they found my fsh was 18 and I was borderline menopausal. I was 34 and we'd been trying since I had turned 30. All the way through stimms I only had 2 follicles and the clinic needed min of 3 so wanted to stop treatment. I was devastated . I was due one final scan and the day before that I fell down the stairs. On the scan day I had 3 follicles!!!!! So they went ahead and at egg collection they got 2 eggs. The consultant did the test for me because I refused and I was pregnant!!! They were more surprised than us I think

I had 2 ivf cycles and have 10 yrold twins and a 13 year old! Reasons-severe endometriosis which was so bad i had a full hysterectomy last year.

It worked first time for me too. I had low ovarian reserve as well age 34. I only got 2 eggs! One embryo. One bfp. One baby!

It worked first time for me. I had 6 eggs ending in just one blastocyst after 5 days, that one is now my 10 week old son good luck, I also did acupuncture to support it, I swear by it!

A friend of mine had IVF for unexplained infertility and got lucky first time. A subsequent attempt about 2 Years later was unsuccessful. She was lucky though and managed to conceive naturally a few months later.

Yes. I was 37 and the reason was severe male factor infertility. DH has been seriously ill.

We had ICSI using frozen testicular sperm.

I had 5 further fresh cycles and a few FETs before having DC2 on our last cycle. Last cycle was belt and braces job - full immune testing and treatment for me and PGS on the embryos.

Interestingly, the best looking embryos were chromosomally damaged. If we hadn't have done PGS then we wouldn't have dd as she was fourth in the rankings.

It was weird though knowing the gender so early in pg.

Round one failed. Round two worked. If it fails it's often because drug levels needed adjusting so if it is a bfn don't lose all hope.

Oh and I was 42 with own eggs for our second successful cycle.

Yes it can. I'm currently 38 weeks pregnant after a successful first round of ICSI.

We had 12 eggs but only two fertilised. We put two back and I'm now pregnant with one.

It was a total shock to be successful first time round. I'm 38 and DH is 49.
