IVF. Got first appointment in january

Hi all. New to this. We have had four failed iui, with one mc. Got our first appt at IVF clinic in January. I'm 38 and the other half is 35. Anyone else in the same boat? Xxx

wishing you all the best my prayers are with you both I know its easier said then done but try to really treat your self well before and after the treatment.

Hi everyone. We've got an initial appointment on 13th Jan @ Essex & Herts Fertility Clinic - hoping to do egg sharing. I'm 34 & DH is 35. Over 2.5 years TTC for us - it's been a very long and uneventful road to get here, without a sniff of a bfp sadly. Wishing you all lots of luck!

Hi everyone . We are going in on 15th Jan to have our initial tests (HIV, blood count, AMH etc). We're then starting our first IVF cycle after that. As I have no idea what to expect or what the waiting times are like for each stage (we're NHS but I think my area is supposed to be relatively good compared to much of the UK) I'm not sure exactly when the "fun and games" will actually start.

I'll keep an eye on how you're all getting on. Best of luck for the next few months!

yes just had my first planning cycle appointment, got to have some blood tests updated and then will get the phone call to go in and discuss dates, so excited!!

Hi everyone, We've got our first IVF appointment mid January too- I'm feeling equally excited and scared.

I'm really not sure what to expect at the first appointment, our referral came through quicker than I expected so in some ways I don't feel prepared. Is any one doing anything extra prepare for the next few months, vitamins diets etc? I've been reading that high protein low carb diets can help with egg quality, and I'm going to go no alcohol (not that I drink much anyway but hoping it might help general heath)

Unfortunately we are in the unexplained category which is really frustrating as I'm not sure what to focus on, and I do wonder how they can solve something with out knowing what the problem is. I suppose we all just have to put our faith in the doctors.

LemonadeGirl08, yes it is scary, look on fertility friends as well, it gives you the low down on what can and will happen, all i will say is you will get very used to having internal scans and examinations, all the doctors and nurses are really lovely and all have the time to discuss the worries and fears as well!!
always ask at the time if you are not sure of something and always take someone with you to every appointment as 2 sets of ears is a lot better, i'm very lucky that i have 3 very close friends and 1 of them has always been with me to every appointment and my friends have also been there through the whole ivf process and have been a massive support for me and will be with me again when i start the next lot of treatment too!!

It seems so many people are "unexplained". In a way that's good, because there's therefore no reason why you CAN'T get pregnant, but it's also frustrating because there's nothing obvious to "fix".

Like you, we're changing our diets and exercising more. We'll be having more good quality protein and vegetables and almost zero booze. I don't really eat much protein so I'm trying to work on that, plus cut down on sugar! I'm only taking folic acid and some vitamin c tablets as I think it's best to get your vitamins and nutrients from food, but DH is also taking conception tablets for men and zinc as he has low count and poor morphology. It may not do any good, but we want to give it everything we can as far as it's within our control! It sounds like you're quite similar in your approach (i.e. diet overall!). Best of luck x

I'm starting my first IVF cycle late January/ Feb. After 2 years of trying and a year of various fertility tests we're still in the unexplained category too.

I've had the initial scan and blood tests and am expecting a delivery of drugs to my house next week so sounds like I'm a bit further along than most of you.

LemonadeGirl - I've been having acupuncture for the last 3 months, doing yoga and have been taking various supplements (omega 3, folic acid, coq10, vitamin d). Not sure whether any of this will actually help but makes me feel a bit more prepared. Also made since dietary changes and cut down on booze - although this has gone out of the window lately!

Thank you all for the lovely advice sounds like there's a few of us that are on similar time scales so I'll look forward to hearing how you all get on!

goinggrey thank you for the advice, I am hoping that my boyfriend will be able to attend all the appointments with me as I've only told my sister and my Mum about our situation. I'm always thinking about whether or not to tell friends but I just can't face it even though I am sure they would be supportive none of them are quite at the ttc stage so may not quite understand and telling people means it real and I think I am in denial. When did you start to tell people? Good luck with your next round of treatment

FlatWhite Yes unexplained diagnosis is a positive in some ways but it can really mess with your head as every month I have that glimmer of hope that we'll get lucky but of course every month we have our hopes dashed- it such a roller coaster isn't! We do sound very similar in out approach, I was also struggling with getting enough protein especially as I'm veggie but have started eating fish which makes things a bit easier. Annie0123 I've been doing acupuncture too- have you found it's made any difference to you cycles etc? I really enjoy going and having an outlet to talk to someone but it has made bugger all difference but I suppose it's only 3 months so I'm not sure what I should expect. I've cut back on Yoga because I was just trying to do nothing and RELAX but that hasn't worked so I think I'll start up again this year but just try to go easy and not do too much twisting! Are you going to continue with it throughout your IVF cycle?
