Hi all,DH and I have been diagnosed with unexplained infertility. Officially on the waiting list for nhs ivf. Consultant didn't hesitate and basically got us straight onto the list. I'm happy about this but part of me was thinking there would be other things tried first (Clomid, IUI etc). I suppose it makes sense as there isn't anything they have found to treat. Was just wondering if this matches other experiences?

We had unexplained infertility and went straight to IVF. Was basically told that because I was ovulating regularly (every month) Clomid would not do anything different. Our problem was basically sperm didn't want to meet the egg, again DH's SAs were fine, therefore IUI would not be our best choice either so went straight for IVF. Which worked and am sitting here enjoying my last 3 weeks of sleep/me time!
From what I understood Clomid/IUI are there to try and solve issues they know about- no issues, no point using them!
Good luck! :)

Are you ovulating? If your cycle is regular and egg quality is good then clomid probably wouldn't have much impact. I have no experience but I would imagine if IUI is an option they may discuss with you at the IVF clinic. What other diagnostic tests have you had?

Thanks for the quick replies guys! Had the whole set of tests, bloods, hsg, ultrasound etc all normal. DHs SA totally normal too, I sort of suspected that it was the case that basically if there is nothing to treat then it's straight to ivf, consultant didn't really explain that tho. Should have asked at the appointment but was in a bit of a daze. Thanks for putting my mind at ease. Bigchanges enjoy your last few weeks! You must be super excited! Did you find out what you are having? All the best ??
