Sperm test results- should I be worried?

Hi,

My DH went for a SA a week ago and called the GPs surgery today to get the results. The receptionist said the results had come through and he needs to make an appointment to discuss the results. He's got an appointment for this Thursday.

I'm really stressed as I figure they would only make an appointment if the results were bad news.... what do you reckon? Should we assume bad news or is it standard practise to give out results in person. I'm not sure why they would waste an appointment slot just to say there are no problems. Does anyone know if I'm right?

Thanks all :-(

I wouldn't rush to panic - bear in mind that the results of a sperm analysis are pretty complicated; there are various factors being analysed and if they just gave you the results over the phone they'd really just be a bunch of numbers that might not make that much sense without someone to explain them. So, I don't know for sure but I wouldn't assume the worst just yet.

Try not to worry (hard I know), receptionists never give out results as they will need to be interpreted by the doctor when they're shared with you.

Even if there is a problem (if!), it's not the end of the road. Been there, done that, got the tantrumming toddler! Wink

When we did my partners SA our doctor told is that no matter what the results they are always done in person.

Our has to be done on a phone appointment with a doc
Receptionist couldnt tell us anything
Either way a doc has to discuss with you

Thanks all, that's so helpful! I won't assume it's all doom and gloom just yet! I was just feeling negative because when I had my day 21 blood tests done they said my results were all 'normal' over the phone. The receptionist was reading it off the screen. Then again, I doubt results will ever just read 'normal' for an SA test because as you all day, it's not that simple.

Thank you! (deep breaths...!)

There are so many factors on a SA test the receptionist couldn't possibly go into it!
Even if there is slight "doom" there will be a solution
