is it better to go private instead of using the NHS?

I am going to be 40 this year (Oct) and I am in the middle of being downregg'd during my 2nd cycle (with the NHS). I was bitter and upset after the first one didn't work. If this one doesn't work, I may be able to get the 3rd one (I live in Camden borough so we get 3 trys under the NHS) but I don't know whether I should or not. I know. I sound negative. I just haven't been able to shake this feeling that it won't work this time either although I am trying v hard to be positive but I also feel that the NHS isn't as invested as a private clinic would be. Thoughts?

I had one successful cycle at Hammersmith hospital paid by NHS and then an unsuccessful cycle at the same place privately funded. Treatment and care the same both times except that on the private cycle we met the consultant in a nicer room! On both cycles i felt despondent and like i was just on a factory style system. Take the NHS cycles. It's a process and they should learn a little bit more about you with each attempt and that information will be helpful if you end up going private. I hope it works out for you.

thank you libertychick. we hope so too. we ttc for 4 years with a GP telling us that everything was "fine" and that we should be "patient".
Now with the ivf cycles, it feels like we are on a hamster wheel of trying and not getting anywhere again. (or it could be that the downreg meds are making me more despondent than normal!)
