Infertility
Acupuncture - thoughts?
ChampagneTastes · 26/05/2015 14:27
My DH and I are suffering unexplained secondary infertility. The likelihood is that the key problems are age (I'm 35) and weight (we're both a couple of stone overweight). DH had his sperm tested and all was fine apart from motility which, although in the realms of "normal", was at the lower end of the scale. I'm working on my weight (and gently trying to encourage him to do the same) and now I'm wondering if acupuncture is worth while? I'm generally of the view that alternative medicines are rubbish but I'm at the point of desperation!

I have it for muscle tension. The Dr who does it claims 24 babies including twins from her IVF patients.
Can't help to try!

Fwiw I've wasted a lot of time and money over the last year on acupuncture and reflexology. I really wanted them to work and believed they would because of all the positive stories I'd read. If I could turn back the clock I would have just gone to see private Dr. It would have worked out the same and I might be pregnant by now.

Acupuncture didn't help me get pregnant, but it did - as a totally unexpected side-effect - lift the deep depression that I'd slid into.
On a more practical level though, what tests and investigations have you had? Did you have a c-section? Mine turned out to be the cause of my secondary infertility, but in several years of ttc, nobody had mentioned it...

Hey Champagne (awesome name)
Just thought I'd say there was a similar discussion a little while ago, if you're interested, see below. I'm in the sceptics camp but lots aren't.

Thanks all (sorry I haven't had a chance to come back before now). Yes, I'm generally of the view that proper medicine is the way forward but I can't convince my DH to spend the sort of money required to go private. Acupuncture seems a little more affordable at least.
Purplemeggie I've had all that the NHS are willing to do for me. Bloods, sperm, HCG, uterus scan. I didn't have a C-section (although I probably should have done). All are normal.
MrsBadger are you getting anywhere with a private doctor? How much does it cost? I don't have any private medical insurance so it'll just have to come out of our savings.
Catnip Thank you.

Sorry, another 'don't bother' here too.
I tried for 18 years to get pregnant and it was only the last ever attempt which was the first time I hadn't used acupuncture*that I did get pregnant. If you find a Bowen therapist you may find that more beneficial. Google it.
Wishing you lots of positivity in your journey xx

I had it for about 3 months before starting IVF. Not only did it reduce my stress levels which were sky high, but I'm now 8 weeks pregnant from our first round.
Who knows whether it was the acupuncture or not....but it certainly won't hurt.
Good luck!
