PCOS with no weight to lose

Hello all, I wonder if you can help?

TTC 14 months, no luck. Ultrasound showed polycycstic ovaries so starting clomid next cycle (hurry up!) but wondering what else I can do to help. Most guidance I read says to lose weight, but my BMI is 20 to 21 so I don't think that would be good for me.

Does anyone have any advice?

Thank you very much.

Hi Whirlwind. I too have PCOS and a low BMI (technically underweight). It's unusual but not unheard of. Please please please don't try lose anything if you're a healthy weight! Are you under a consultant? (Or going to be when you start Clomid?)

No real advice here, as I was EXTREMELY lucky and conceived DD a month before we were about to start fertility treatment (about 14 months of trying), but I just wanted to say good luck, and I hope it all works out for you!

Try a low GI diet. Not to lose weight but to even out your blood sugar levels.

Hi Whirlwind- Me too! BMI of 18 but have PCOS and blood tests have confirmed no ovulation Sad.

I'm currently waiting (and waiting and waiting....) for my fertility clinic appointment- 7 weeks and counting VERY SLOWLY!

I was looking into taking inositol as I've heard a lot of success stories but also heard that it makes you lose weight which I definitely don't want to do!

I'd be interested to hear what others who have PCOS but are of an average weight do to improve their fertility/ to kick start ov! I think clomid is the answer but still waiting!!!

I have thin PCOS too. Initial tests then lap and dye / hysteroscopy then IVF referral with Clomid for a few months while I waited. Clomid didn't work. IVF did. Good luck!

Hi Whirlwind - same here :(
I'm 22 and my BMI is 19.5 which is slightly underweight, and i'm 49kg, been TTC 13 months and scans confirmed PCOS, clinic said they will put me on clomid and that will be in a couple of weeks, excited and nervous at the same time!!
Do't know if it's just me or it feels like its taking over my day to day life :(

I also have PCOS but was borderline underweight. I tried to eat low GI (but plenty of fat/calories) to keep blood sugar more stable without losing weight, cut way down on caffeine and got more exercise. I was ovulating but very irregularly and was very lucky to get pregnant after about 15 months trying (due in a few months) while waiting for an appointment at the fertility clinic. I do feel like my periods were more reliable when I paid more attention to my diet but wasn't that consistent about it so can't say for sure. Good luck, I really hope it works out for you soon!

MisterSafetyCatchIsNotOn congratulations :) well I'm not sure if I am ovulating or not as my periods are slightly irregular since I came off the pill, but for the last two cycles I had a 42 day cycle so I don't know really. My appointment is on the 29th this month so fingers crossed. I don't really drink any caffeine but I don't exercise so I don't really know what to do :(
