I recently received ivf treatment. I had a 3 day FET and was implanted on the 31st January. I was told to wait 2 weeks to do a test. When I did the test it was a positive!! But when we attended our scan we were 6 weeks 6 days so they said. The scan showed an empty uterus. No sac no fetal pole no fetus. We were devastated as all my tests have shown up positive. After the scan we were told to stop the meds and go home and expect to bleed. The following day I started spitting and had bad cramps and bleeding. We visited the gynaecology dept and they took bloods which showed a level of what was said to be 75. They said to come back two days later and see if the levels were rising. But I received a call saying not to come back in as the level was what it was and that I had miscarried. There was no proof of miscarriage. They also mentioned a possible blighted ovum or chemical pregnancy. I've done another two tests since which state pregnant. I have stopped bleeding and cramping. My period was due in the day I started bleeding after the scan. I had no symptoms of coming on whatsoever prior to the scan(intravaginal). I'm so confused as to what's happening. I'm still holding on to hope and I'm praying it's just too early to be seen. Has anyone got any advice or help me with this?
Worried and confused :(

I'm sorry you're having such a horrible time. How long ago was your scan and blood results? If you really were 6+6 at your scan then I'm afraid it doesn't look good, as you should be able to see something by then. But if you're still getting positive tests I would go back to your clinic/GP and ask for another scan or repeat bloods at least as it could mean you've got some retained tissue. Good luck!

I had my scan on Wednesday and bloods done on Friday as I was concerned so my doctor referred me. I've to go back in today for more blood work to be done. I was implanted on the 31st jan so really only 5 weeks along... But they class it as time added on as it was ivf... I'm not really sure how it all works as all I've been told after the scan was to go home and stop my meds and it was a possible miscarriage but I had to request bloods and further investigation myself. It's my first time so it's all new to me but shocking at how blunt they can be especially after saying not to worry and to enjoy the pregnancy. How can you enjoy it if you know that despite having a positive test every time that it doesn't give u a real answer at all ! So lonely and confused

Good luck with your blood test today, this should give you some answers at least. If your last result on Friday was 75 then that would explain why you're still getting positive tests even if you've suffered a miscarriage, as most tests have a cut off of 25 or even lower and it can take a little while for hcg levels to fall. If you are still pregnant then your results should have doubled by now.

Have you got anyone in RL to support you? I had a mmc last year so I know how hard this is. Flowers

So sorry to hear about this- it is truely horrible. Something similar happened to me after my IVF cycle, although I was confident something wasn't right from early on as I had bleeding before I tested and test lines remained fairly weak. I was scanned at 6 weeks exactly (they date from CD1 of the IVF cycle, which is the same as if you became pregnant on a natural cycle) and found an empty uterus. My HCG was 30 or so and then down to single figures when re-tested in a few days. I started bleeding again soon after the scan and that went on for a couple of weeks, though not very heavy.

I never really got an explanation as to what had happened, but I assume the embryo must have implanted and developed to a small degree to get the positive tests, but stopped fairly soon and it just took a while for the HCG levels to drop and for the bleeding to start. I hate to says to say it, but with your dates, the scan and the HCG level it looks like it is over Sad

I was utterly devastated when it happened to me but the clinic tried to be positive by saying that at least it had implanted which was hopeful for future cycles. Very best of luck for the future and be kind to yourself at this time, it a nasty old business at times, this TTC lark.

I'm sorry to hear this. IVF is a roller coaster. Something similar happened to me although like a pp I was sure something was wrong as I had a bleed. Unfortunately my HCG levels continued to rise and it was diagnosed as an ectopic pregnancy, so do make sure the hospital keep an eye on you in case it is ectopic. I hope it all works out for you, op

If you had a 5 day blast put back 31st jan you would count from 12/01
And would be i think 8+1 now
At 6w /7w the hcg would be in 1000s and there would be sac/pole etc and heartbeat.
They may be checking for ectopic maybe, though i think they would have checked tilubes on scan.
I think some tests register over 25 so it could be hcg was still too high and showing positive

Thank you for all ur advice ladies. We had our bloods last night and confirmed today the levels have dropped so it's over. It's such a sad thing to have to go through all this effort and stress and worry to feel at such a loss at the end of it all. Hopefully fingers crossed next time will give us a better chance with a fresh cycle and egg retrieval fresh as opposed to frozen.
A x
