No ovulation and GP not...

Hello everyone first post here after crying on and off all day. I'm off the pill 11 months ago and have been ttc ever since. I had day 3 and day 21 bloods done and was told my day 3 levels for everything were completely normal but my progesterone level at day 21 is only 2.8.... I'm nog ovulating.

The go called me but just said to come in for a swab and vaginal examination and was very dismissive saying that as I had been pregnant before I can ovulate...... That the guidelines is not to refer for further help until 24 months As I'm 32.... But now that I have tested for no ovulation there is obviously some kind of problem. I'm going back in the morning and am going to ask they test again day 3 and day 21 but surely you should wait 24 months if their go initial tests are normal...no ovulation means no chance :-(

Didn't want to read your post and run, I'm a lurker usually... How did your appt go?

belkins · 03/03/2015 20:43

Sorry, for some reason I thought your post was from yesterday!

In which case...hope your appt goes ok tomorrow! Easy for me to say but best not to worry until you've actually spoken to the dr.... (my experience has shown you just can't second guess what they might say - I have been ttc for years now, 6mc and mucho fertility treatment).

AnyFucker · 03/03/2015 20:44

if there is a proven problem with ovulation then of course you should be referred...what is the point of waiting 24 months in that case ? Confused

AttilaTheMeerkat · 04/03/2015 09:33

Your GP is unhelpful to say the very least and I would now look into changing GP practice.

If your day 21 levels showed no ovulation it is likely that your day 3 levels were also awry but the results were misinterpreted. BTW what hormone levels did they test on that particular day?.

I would check the NICE guidelines but I thought you could be referred to a specialist after 12 months, not 24.

homeaway · 04/03/2015 17:41

How long are your cycles ? If they are longer you could be ovulating past day 21 so you would probably not have the levels they would expect on day 21. Would you consider charting as that would give you some more information ?

Sidge · 04/03/2015 17:45

Day 21 is pretty unreliable unless you have a definite 28 day cycle.

What is your cycle length? What days do you bleed? Are you having regular bleeds?

AttilaTheMeerkat · 04/03/2015 18:27

At 11 months of ttc without success however I would argue that the OP is well beyond the stage of temp charting. Also it is of no real benefit in the event the menstrual cycle is irregular.

Day 21 tests can be a reliable indicator but these really should be done in conjunction with regular visits to the subfertility unit (same with day 3).

A friend of mine was trying for a year and was getting desperate. The reason she was not getting pregnsnt was that she ovulated late in her cycle, well past day 14 . She moved her bd to later in her cycle and got her bfp.
The first few cycles after stopping the pill might have been annovolatory. Good luck op.

IfYouWereARiverIdLearnToFloat · 04/03/2015 21:01

Could you be ovulating later than day 14 in which case your day 21 test won't show much? I had been ovulating around D19 so my progesterone D21 was rubbish. I've had 3 sessions of acupuncture and this month I'm ovulating D13 of a 27 day cycle so I feel like I'm at least in with a chance each month now. Might be worth a try - my GP is now happy my D21 test is normal with acupuncture & isn't keen to refer me on yet - I'm 14 months in with one MC last year. Part of me really wants to start the ball rolling with fertility clinic though.

Clomid is your friend!

AnxiousKeziah · 06/03/2015 18:27

Agree - did you get tested on right day? That may be the problem. If longer cycle need second blood test later. Definitely ask gp to order blood tests again and then see what happens. In the meantime the 24m countdown has begun if necessary.

Naty1 · 06/03/2015 23:13

Agree with pp cd21 is irrelevant if you have very long (or probably) very short cycles.
If they dont compare your fsh to lh for day 3 they would miss pcos. The 2 should be about equal lh double fsh indicates pcos.
11m ttc is not that long. The reason they say 2yrs is because up to that pt there is still a reasonable chance of pg. (unless theyve found something severely wrong, not sure what NICE crieria is for annovulation, i would think at least 3 tests.
worth getting a SA done too though.

Tryingno1 · 08/03/2015 13:59

Hi. I'm pretty sure if a problem
Is found u get referall straight away. It's only 24 months if its unexplained-so no obvious problem.
But I would def def 2/3 tests done. Firstly all Women have the odd cycle where they don't ovulate..and also just make sure u do it On the right day.

All the best x

Hi Brighton5555
I'm in the same boat as you, but been trying for a 2nd baby for 4 years. The GP keeps telling me there is nothing wrong with me, that I've got one child and therefore can have another!!!

I had the blood test a few years ago and they came back fine. I am now with a new GP and have my 21 cycle day test on Tuesday. My average cycle is 25 days, not 28.

I have also been for a pelvic ultrasound, which found a small cyst on ovary, so I went for a second scan last week and told cyst still there but too small to warrant any action.

I have no alternative left now but to go for a private consultation and see where I can go from there! I'm 37 years old and my daughter is 7.

I don't qualify for any assistance on the NHS as I already have the one child.

Just feel so frustrated and sad that I can't give my daughter a brother or sister she is craving for :-(

sunshineonasunnyday · 08/03/2015 15:58

Tattychicken - I will be enquiring about chlomid at my next GP appointment. I do have some that my friend gave me, 2 cycles worth, but shit scared to take them without GP approval.
