ICSI question and far TMI

Hi,
I have NC'd for this for obvious reasons.

We're on our first cycle of ICSI in a city that is a fair bit away from where we live. I've come over here on my own for the first part, and I'm due to have egg retrieval tomorrow. Mr is coming over this evening.
Obviously, given the distance, we haven't been having sex. He's not much of a masturbator either (low libido). I will ask him, but if he hasn't masturbated in the last few days, I was wondering if we'd be better off having sex this evening to clear out his old sperm or not have sex because of quality issues? The booklet I got does not advise on this issue. Unsurprisingly.

My clinic (Care) have this advice on their website

Please remember that your semen sample is generally at optimum quality after 2-3 days abstinence from ejaculation, so we advise, where appropriate, ejaculation 2-3 days prior to the day of egg collection and then to abstain until we require you to produce the semen sample.

My clinic told us the same as the above pp. But if this hasn't happened, I'm not sure which of your options is better.

And don't cringe or stress about asking these things - you'll find there aren't many things people get embarrassed talking about once they get started on the IVF roller coaster!

Thanks Guin. I will happily spead my legs these days for anyone with a white coat and a probe but some things are still a bit awkward.
