Progesterone in IVF - how do you get yours?

I'm having my first round of ivf and was in my clinic today for needle teach. The nurse told me that in addition to my progesterone gel (crinone pessaries), I have to have intra-muscular injections a few times a week.

This was a bit of a blow, as when I went for my initial consultation at my clinic, I specifically asked about whether or not I'd need intra-muscular injections, and my consultant made out as if it wouldn't be necessary.

So - I guess I'm wondering if the progesterone injections are absolutely needed, or if there are other effective ways of getting progesterone in to your system?

Hiya

I've just had a FET cycle and was on two Crinone gels a day one in the morning and one at night.

I had a blood test 2 days before ET and they found I wasn't absorbing the gel and changed me to cyclogest 2 pessaries (400mg each) x 3 times a day.

Maybe you could ask about the cyclogest instead?

X

Thanks Frazoz. That's helpful.

With a bit of luck, the nurse was just confused. She said I would need to have lentogest injections, and then whipped out the biggest needle I've ever seen. She then said she'd need to check the dosage with the consultant because he hadn't written it down on my treatment form.

What I'm hoping is that he hadn't written down on my treatment form because I don't actually need it. It sounds unpleasant and I am a coward!

Hello

I had pessaries for both my failed cycles, cylogest and Ultrogestan, both times didn't make it to test day so I think my levels are too low so I asked for Gestone this time so will be on daily intramuscular injections

I had 100mg of Gestone a day, huge needle but I managed to do it myself with no problems.

I'm having 100mg of Gestone every day as well (currently 8dp5dt). I won't lie, the needles are worse than ones I had for other meds, but from reading around it seems the IM injections are more effective than other methods of taking the progesterone - fingers crossed!

The literature from the hospital said I'd have suppositories but then gave me the enormous needles…. Shock OH does the injections for me, which perhaps helps a bit.

Good luck with it all Tootsiepops!
