Fertilisation numbers

To give some background... Last time we had 20 eggs, 17 fertilised, 10 day 3, 1 early blast day 5... which I am so thankful to now call my daughter.
This time- I had 18 eggs collected yesterday and just been told 12 mature and 11 fertilised. I am aware that these are good numbers, but my concern is that I went from 20 to 1 last time and am worried I will go from 11 to 0 this time. Don't know why I'm posting really, just crave some support from people who understand :( x

No advice Sugar but a hand to hold as I've just gone through my 2nd ICSI cycle with ET yesterday so I know how stressful it is waiting to see how those little embryos are doing! As hard as it is, try not to compare this cycle with the last. I don't think there's a hard and fast rule on how many make it. On our first cycle we had 8 eggs, 7 mature, 6 fertilised which all made it to blast. Unfortunately the cycle was unsuccessful. This time I had 11 mature eggs but only 5 fertilised and 4 made it to blast. So even though I had less eggs the first time, I actually ended up with more blasts at the end. Hoping sll goes well for you, let us know how you get on.

Turquoisetamborine · 03/02/2015 19:25

I only had 5 eggs collected on my second cycle and three made it to blast. I'm now pregnant with one of those blasts and have one in the freezer so with your numbers you have a great chance!

Good luck!

Shellster52 · 03/02/2015 20:19

Sugar, I think we've spoken before. As Happy says, I wouldn't compare last cycle to this one. I've had 9 cycles and a different result each time. But I totally get if that is your experience of starting with 20 and getting one to blast, that you are going to have that on your mind as you start with lower numbers this time. Keep us posted with how you get on. Will be thinking of you.

BadgerFace · 03/02/2015 20:38

11 fertilised eggs is amazing! Don't try and compare to your last cycle, I don't think it's comparable like that. Come join us on the those starting ivf/Icsi in January thread. 2 other ladies had their egg collections yesterday so you will be in good company!

I had 7 collected last week, 5 mature and made it through ICSI, 2 arrested between day three and five, leaving 3,one isn't a blast yet, one is but not great and that left us with one good blast which I had put in today. As everyone keeps saying, you only need one! Grin

Sugarplummy84 · 04/02/2015 06:47

Thank you everyone. It's sooo hard to not worry at this stage, isn't it. I hate that's it's so different to last time and I also hate how out of our control it is. Confused

I know it's still early but have you received any update yet Sugar? I guess it's the stage between day 3-5 that you are worried about since that's where the embryo numbers dropped last time. Not long to know now but I guess to you a few days feels like an eternity at the moment!

Sugarplummy84 · 04/02/2015 12:54

Absolutely shellster. Feels like an eternity. Today is day 2 so will get an update tomorrow. Expecting that to be normal range, as it was last time. It's what happens between Thursday and Saturday that kills me to think about. Eugh :(

BadgerFace · 04/02/2015 14:09

The waiting at each stage is definitely the worst bit of the process. The injections and hormones are the easy bit! Good luck Sugar.

BadgerFace · 05/02/2015 07:01

Good luck with the update today Sugar. If they are worried about what would happen between Thurs and Sat then they will no doubt do a day 3 transfer. Some clinics even do a day 3 and then a day 5 transfer if you are in the age range to have 2 embryos put back in.

I know the waiting is hard but look at your daughter and remember that miracles happen! I'm part way through a FET and have a DD from my fresh cycle three years ago. If it can happen once, then why not again...

Sugarplummy84 · 05/02/2015 08:57

Thank you so much for all of your supportive comments :) Very warmly received. And good luck to any of you who are going through this truly awful experience too!! X

I only ever had 1-2 embryos at day 3 transfer but i had 1dc and pg with another. I think between 8 cells and blast may be when sperm dna kicks in ?

Only about 50% usually make blast from day 3.

Sugarplummy84 · 05/02/2015 18:26

Day 3 I have 6 today, 1 grade 1 and 5 grade 2s so they're pushing for blastocysts on Saturday. Never felt more sick or worried at once. What does anyone think??

OP posts:
BadgerFace · 05/02/2015 18:33

I was told that it's usual to lose a third at each stage, which would mean you would have 4 make it to blast... although I know that didn't happen on your other cycle. Mine went in exact thirds as they predicted.

I guess it's impossible to know but having 6 high grades is an excellent position to be in. And it will be Saturday before you know it!

Sugarplummy84 · 05/02/2015 18:37

Thank you Badger. 4 would be beyond my wildest dreams. Did your cycle work? X

BadgerFace · 05/02/2015 20:23

Yes, thankfully, DD was two beginning of Jan! We've just started a FET to use one of the frozen embryos left over from the cycle that she came from. We are very lucky and have 6 frozen although the quality of them is very variable.

Shellster52 · 05/02/2015 23:33

Congrats on getting this far Sugar Although I know the next two days are probably the most stressful two days of your life! I remember getting a day 3 update and thinking day 5 felt forever away but then when I woke up day 4, I was able to think 'just one more day to get through'. Thinking of you. Keep us posted.

happylass · 05/02/2015 23:40

Great news so far Sugar. Thrilled for you! We were told to expect to lose 50-60% between days 3 and 5. This absolutely petrified me on our 1st cycle but as it happened we didn't lose any. Lost just 1 on our 2nd cycle so the stats aren't always accurate.
I really don't think the clinic would risk going to blast if they weren't pretty certain you'd have something to put back. Will be keeping everything crossed for you, I was in exactly the same position this time last week so understand how stressful it is Flowers

littlemissblue · 05/02/2015 23:55

All sounds positive so far! I had 14 eggs with my first round of ICSI, 7 fertilised but only 1 made it to day 5 - my son! 2nd round failed, 3rd round I had 16 eggs taken only 3 fertilised!!! I was devastated and they decided to do a day 2 transfer of the 2 best embies (both 6 cell by then) - 1 of them made it and is my 1 year old daughter! You never can tell, wishing you all the luck in the world x

minibmw2010 · 06/02/2015 13:21

I think that all sounds very positive Sugar. I'm in almost exactly the same boat as you. EC was on Monday, but 5 follicles collected. Tuesday I was told all 5 had eggs which was great news. Thursday I was told 1 was a 6, 2 were a 7 and 2 an 8 (I don't know the grading system) so they've gone to Blastocyst. We're having ET tomorrow morning and I just wish I knew how they were/what was happening. But we'll know soon enough I guess. Good luck !! x

BadgerFace · 06/02/2015 17:13

Good luck tomorrow mini, sounds like a good crop!
