Stupid PCOS question?

I have had PCOS for 10 years. Did manage to conceive DS naturally quite unexpectedly, we weren't actively trying. However we are now trying for no2 (have been for 2 years)

So, I temp every month (cycles of 35-50 days) and about 3/4's of the time, I get a temp rise. I was blood tested during one of those cycles and ovulation was confirmed.

Now heres the bit I dont get; if I am ovulating and the temp rises, does that mean thats NOT one of the eggs thats going to turn in to a cyst? Or could it still become a cyst even though temp has risen and test shows I ovulated.

When did you last have a blood test done?. Any test result done over six months ago can be discounted.

Do you have definitive proof that you have ovulated in for instance the last 2 or 3 months?. Have you had any recent blood tests done to check your day 2 LH and FSH levels?. Have internal ultrasounds been done to assess the state of the ovaries and uterine cavity?.

You can have a temp rise in the second half of the cycle when an egg has not been shed so temping itself is not completely infallible a method. It may well be that you are not ovulating regularly if at all currently. Many cystic follicles associated with the polycystic ovary are infact dormant and some also release hormones (this goes onto impede ovulation). One may contain an egg.

Have you as yet sought further medical advice?.

Latest tests were all 2 months ago. I had all those tests and they were all within the normal ranges. Ovulation was confirmed that month (and around 6 months ago when I had them before, I had to do it twice because they wanted to be sure) We are awaiting the referral letter to come through for further treatment and DH has to do his tests. I had an internal scan done and the ovaries look PCOS but healthy.

I also do the LH sticks and 3/4 times get a positive result around the time of the temp rise. I sometimes get CM but not always, probably about 3/4 times as well. So I look for all of the signs.

Why does the temp rise if a new cyst is formed? Sometimes (1/4 on average) I get no temp rise at all and what I assumed to be a breakthrough bleed. Sorry if I sound dumb!

The cystic follicles associated with PCOS can and do disappear, only to be replaced by further cystic follicles. There can be and often are many rises and falls in hormone levels each month; this is also where OPKs fall down (as these assume only one rise in LH which is immediately followed by ovulation).

The temperature may rise in the second half of the cycle because an egg is trying to be shed. However, this rise can also occur when an egg has not been shed.

Polycystic ovaries often appear larger than normal (walnut) size and have a string of pearls appearance. Did they btw note a larger appearance?.

I hope you get the referral letter soon but they should really have tested your man before now. It certainly needs to be determined if there are any male factor issues.
