Were you advised not to TTC the same cycle of an HSG?

Hi,

I have an HSG in a few hours, I'm on cd9.

She gave us so much info and I was so overwhelmed that I can't remember if she said not to ttc during the whole cycle of the HSG or just before the test.

I'll ask them again today, but I'd like to know what were you advised. I've been googling and I still don't have it clear

I wasn't told not to ttc, I actually got pregnant the cycle after my hsg despite both having had fertility issues and having been ttc for years, I really think the hsg may have helped, I hope it helps you too Thanks

Thanks Stripy!

Your message it's going to help me to be more relaxed during the test at least!

Hi

I had one last week and was advised to use protection for the full cycle because the radiation could have damaged the egg that was already released.

Its probably just a precaution because there seems to be a few people on here that have fall preggo in the same month and no problems. Just weigh up the risk.

Thanks ladies,

Done and dusted.

The radiologist said that this days they advice to wait until the next cycle, but that it really doesn't matter Confused

One more question.

Did any of you get really bloated after a few hours?

When he introduced the dye it hurted A LOT, but only for 30 seconds or so and I felt ok as soon as it was finished, just a little bit of spotting and leakage.

I went home and I was fine, but in the evening my abdomen started to bloat and getting really hard, I looked like a 3 months pregnant. My uterus wasn't cramping, but my abdomen was in quite bad pain.

This morning I'm slightly less bloated, but still sore.

Anybody had that and it went on its own?

I don't think I'll be much help but I had mine on Friday. They had a problem with the tube so told me to expect more discomfort than normal. My stomach is still cramping, and it's period type pain, bleeding and bloating.

The dr that did mine told me to wait at least 72 hours before dtd and that the HSG can clear out anything that was in the tubes so chance of pregnancy can increase, but also that the side effects / pain is like a bad period - bloating included :(

How are you feeling now?

Donttellmetorelax · 29/09/2014 08:35

Hi Handbagcrazy

I'm feeling ok now, it took me 3 days to go back to normal, so 72 hours sounds about right.

I hope you are feeling better Flowers

Hiya, got my HSG tomorrow. It says in the letter not to have unprotected sex but doesn't say whether that's before, after or both! I'd be worried about damage to the egg tho I think.

Were you ok to go to work the next day? I don't want any more time off sick :-(

Donttellmetorelax · 01/10/2014 15:15

Hi Victoria401

I don't know if It's going to help, but here we go:

Definitely not unprotected sex before HSG, about after it seems to be different opinions, the nurse told not to, but the radiologist said that it was ok. I've read as well that it depends how far are you from ovulation. I decided not to stop trying.

About feeling ok next day, it will depend. I barely could move the next day, I don't know if I reacted badly to the dye or that they introduced the liquid all at once instead of slowly, but that was me. I think most of the people just have some mild cramping the same day and then feel fine.

Sorry, no conclusive information there... Hmm

Just adding that my HSG was normal, tubes are clear! Yay! Was so pleased with the result that I completely forgot to ask if we could ttc this month! Doh!

I'm still lightly spotting 4 days later and have odd uncomfortable pains in my abdomen not uterus. Especially after a meal! Cd11 now better make our minds up as to whether we are doing it this month! I know I will regret it if we don't, can't waste another cycle as I rapidly approach the dreaded 35!

I wasn't told not to and conceived about 9 days after mine!
