There's a pregnancy test in my handbag and I'm feeling scared

It is 14 days after my embroy transfer and the clinic asked me to do a preg test tomorrow. I feel terrified. So much heart ache and years of false starts, I'm scared and stressed.
I bought the pregnancy test this morning. I normally follow what the clinic tells me to the letter, but this once, do you think I should test today and get it over with?
DH keeps comparing it to the Scottish referendum! Hmm

Aaaww bless you, its totally understandable that your scared. if it was me (little miss impatient) id do it today. good luck. post the results x

HopefulHamster · 15/09/2014 09:54

When it was me I bought lots of cheap tests and tested loads. However I had a very faint/dubious line at first so would not necessarily recommend! I would give it a go if I were you, but be prepared to do it again tomorrow. It is possible to get a late positive.

PinkyAndTheBump · 15/09/2014 10:05

If you can get through the rest of the day and do it first thing tomorrow...

It might be a nice moment to share with your DH? And have each other there to support if it's not the expected result. (Also doing it with first pee if the day should give you a stronger concentration of HCG to detect)

I p'd on the stick then put it face down on the bedside table and then let DH turn it over and look first. And it was a bfp and we hugged and cried and hugged. And if it had been a bfn, it would have broken his heart as much as mine, so it was important we were there together.

Keeping everything crossed for you today!

thejoysofboys · 15/09/2014 10:21

Please don't test early. The clinic give their dates for good reason. If you (God forbid) got a negative result today you'd still be hanging on for another test tomorrow, just in case your hormones weren't strong enough and you get a positive after all.

I've been there and suffered the same agonising wait. It sucks. I really, really, really hope there's a good result waiting for you (TOMORROW!!!!).

jibadeah · 15/09/2014 10:24

Oh god I've been where you are and it's awful. You poor thing.
I always waited till test day, but both times I already knew what the outcome would be before I tested.
Good luck Smile

BiscuitBouncer · 15/09/2014 10:37

Thanks everyone for your support.
I'm def going to do the test in the evening so DH and I will be together to deal with the fall out whatever the outcome. If I do it in the morning then dragging myself into work after bad news is pretty horrible.
I'm going to try to wait until tomorrow evening. But i may have to get DH to hide the test so I don't cave!
Pinky - I like your idea of DH being the one to look first! - I'll see if he's up for that.

If you're doing it in the evening, I'd recommend an "Early Response" one, as that's more sensitive. There ought to be enough HCG for it to detect even in the evening. And I'd test again on Weds am too.

Also, your clinic may recommend a "betaHCG" blood test to follow up, which will be quantitative to confirm result.

Fingers crossed for you both! X

bessie84 · 16/09/2014 07:16

did you do it? x

Turquoisetamborine · 16/09/2014 07:26

How did it go? I was in your position a couple of weeks ago and it was a BFP. I couldn't believe it. IVF can and does work. How many rounds have you had?

BiscuitBouncer · 16/09/2014 08:26

Hi everyone - so here is my update. I managed to resist testing last night, but this morning I just couldn't wait and .... Its Positive! Such a relief. Have seen too many 'not pregnants' I just couldn't believe it. DH rather overwhelmed as if it was the last thing he expected!
Just for info, this is our first time trying IVF with ICSI. We are doing it through UCLH in London, where the procedures are done at CRGH. After a number of tests and going round the houses, our doctor refered us to UCLH two years ago. It felt like there was then a year of general faffing and tests and papeerwork, but when we finally got the all clear to start, everything miraculously turned into a well oiled machine.
We know this is just another step forward along a long road and there are plenty of potential issues ahead of us, but today I am celebrating (and DH appears to be spending the rest of the day looking shell shocked) Grin
