HSG test - quick question

Hi
Am hoping to be called for a HSG test later this week. Will know Thurs and go in Friday.
Went to fill prescription for the pre-test antibiotics and pharmacist was very confused saying it was only for one dose. Is this normal? Have left a message with X-ray dept but wondered if any of you knew how long the course normally is.
Thanks in advance.

One time dose antibiotics are becoming pretty normal these days. I have had this before two surgeries recently, as well as for a UTI and my HSG earlier in the year.
Bit of a pre-warning that you will probably have to run to the toilet a bit for a week with them.

I had my hsg last week and was not given any antibiotics but I was advised to take strong painkillers before it, which I did.

I had a 2 day dose for mine its normal just to ward of infection.

By the way take a pad with you I bled loads afterward

I had a 5day course and a single dose one I think. definitely take paracetamol or ibuprofen an hour before, and take a pad. even if you don't bleed (I didn't) it'll catch the dye!

Thanks for responses. Turns out it was a six day course. Test not too bad.

I have got a single dose for my HSG. 2 tablets I was told to take at the same time on the day of the test. Felt ripped off paying £8.40 for a prescription of 2 tiny tablets though!

I don't actually use pads, am a tampax girl. Bit reluctant to buy a pack for one, might have to use one of those machines in the Ladies to get a solo one!

Vic I was told not allowed to use tampons until next AF. if you are one of the unlucky ones who bleeds you may need more than one. for s couple of quid I'd say its worth being prepared in case.

gone glad it went well for you
