21 day blood test.

Haven't posted on this board before but I had my 21 day blood test results earlier on today - ovulation likely.

I haven't got an appointment to see my GP for another 10 days (don't ask...) and I just wanted to know what this result has meant to you?

I am assuming that this result is a positive? We have been told that the next step is a SA.

I am 40 and my OH is 42 so basically a pair of old gimmers . Neither of us have had children previously and we've been ttc since November. I appreciate it's not that long but my GP said give it 6 months, and if nothing has happened we'll start investigations.

Yes, that's good! Have you had your Day 2-3 blood test? I'm not an expert but I'm pretty it gives an idea of ovarian reserve (how many eggs you have) amongst other things. The key measures are LH and FSH, the lower the better (mine are both 9, which is 'fair'). You're also looking for them to be at a similar level as a big disparity could indicate pcos.

I'm sure someone else will be along to help - might be worth a Google or a search on MN for more info on the above.

Sorry, I didn't answer your question! My Day 21 test and temperature charting (at home) show that I'm ovulating each month. That was a big relief, as was the Day 2-3 test and the SA which were both fine. Having said that, I've been ttc#1 for 13 months (am 36) and still no joy so I'm just about to see a consultant. I'd say that the above tests are the big 3 hurdles to jump when you first start investigations. Ovulation is a big plus.

I should have asked to speak to a GP but was v busy at work and just wanted to know. In actual fact I wasn't much clearer once I knew!

We've talked about it, and decided that we'd have to be more proactive about ttc rather than just dtd throughout the month and concentrating our efforts when I think I'm ovulating.

I guess I have a lot to learn. I am at the stage where I really need to understand the ins and outs (pardon the pun) and start doing some research.

You got more information than I did to begin with. We've also been told that we need SA next, and have just registered DH with the GP. Any idea what that's going to involve? DH is slightly terrified. I've got weird visions of plonking him in front of a tv, putting on some porn and providing him with a plastic cup.

When I called about the results, the receptionist just said, "The tests came back clear. It says it needs no further action." I did tell her that, actually, it did need further action, because that doesn't really help me. My GP called me back a few days later, but didn't really go into any detail, either. I was pretty certain that I ovulate each month anyway (I get my smiley faces very reliably each month), which she was aware of.
I've had internal scans last year, after my mc, and there was nothing wrong in that department.

I'm wondering, though, if the test is supposed to be a specific number of days after you ov, what happens when you ov later? My test was done on cd21, but I had only ov'ed on cd19. Is that likely to mess up the results?

We've been ttc #1 officially for over 1 1/2 years (unofficially for about 3 years).

I just got mine back and the doctor said it should be between 5 and 86 but under 30 indicates that there may not be enough progesterone to support a pregnancy. If it isn't done at 7 dpo then it may be slightly lower than its maximum value.

earlier when I phoned the Dr's surgery they said it was normal but I then had to push to get the values and a Dr had to call me back as the receptionist could only say it was fine and nothing more.

thatssofunny the SA can be done at home but just has to get from home into the hospital in less than an hour. (when trying to conceive dd my dd got caught in traffic and so was running into the hospital holding his pot!) I have never been in the house when he has done his samples.

I did laugh at DP...when I told him that the GP was going to start doing tests he was all very "aww well at least we'll know < strokes thigh, pats knee>" When I informed him that he'd have to provide a sperm sample he went a very funny colour and changed the subject.

I don't know a great deal about what they will do next my GP appt isn't till the 15th which seems ages away!

Number was 29.9 so that sounds like a fair result bearing in mind that I may have been a couple of days either side of OV day. I think I may have ovulated the day before my test given the start date of my last period.
