I was wondering if anyone else who has trouble conceiving also has IBS? I realise I'm grasping at straws here but I'm trying to figure out any possible cause for my inability to conceive.

I have mild IBS, silent reflux and a congenital mega colon.

Do you think a dietary change would help? Please don't tell me to give up tea. I couldn't do that. Not without rehab.

It was a troll.
I gave up lactose and gluten and my periods and IBS got a million times better. I also conceived with IVF after 2 years of trying.
Maybe do a food diary and see what foods trigger your IBS? Fructose, lactose and dairy are prime culprits.
I still drink tea don't worry! Smile

I've thought about gluten and lactose free but guess I wanted to hear from others first. I do love my gluten

Me too. Well I love carbs. But there is very good gluten free bread, pasta, cake, biscuits , cereal...I don't miss it at all

Have you had a coeliac test?

apermanentheadache · 24/06/2014 22:02

I also thought coeliac. Can cause IBS and infertiliy.

HowsTheSerenity · 24/06/2014 22:46

I don't think I've actually been tested for coeliac. I don't have noticeable symptoms after eating bread etc. if I recall the doctor said I had post infective IBS after getting a horrific bout of amoebic dysentery. I get the constipation /diarrhoea, wind, cramping etc..
However I might try and find some willpower and cut down the gluten.

Hows - better to have a test. If you are coeliac, (and the range of symptoms is enormous - from none at all, to loads) then just cutting down gluten won't be enough to restore health.

i know its boring but try to stick to a few key food groups, so that you get into a pattern of going to the toilet everyday and don't get blocked or too runny, as have colitis and have been dairy free for years now, only use soya spead, soya milk and even soya beneol pro-biotics as recommended by my ibd nurse, also plenty of fluids as being dehydrated also effects your bowels!! caffiene, fizzy drinks and energy drinks are also no good!!

HowsTheSerenity · 27/06/2014 00:41

I'll give it a go. Thanks for the advice
