Egg Donation

Hi, this is my first time on here so sorry for any mistakes I make !!!

I've have just been matched with a donor (egg donation). I am so excited, nervous, everything rolled in to one. I'm looking for some advice. I mentioned to my nurse that I wished I could thank this wonderful lady for what she is doing for us (she sounds amazing, just the type of person I'd like as a friend) and she said so long as I don't sign it I can send her a card and a small gift if I wanted. Any ideas of what I could get her ?? How do you say thank you to someone who is giving us the chance to have the family we've waited for ??? I'd really like to get something just so she knows how much we appreciate and respect what she is doing. Any ideas would be appreciated xxx

Watching with interest. I was thinking flowers?

foxinorangesocks · 18/06/2014 12:46

And now I'm thinking of what I want to write - a small book?!! Where to start. Thank you seems so tiny.

Congratulations! How exciting for you.

I think something more permanent than flowers, but it's really difficult without knowing anything about her.

silver bracelet?

I think a gift would be hard, but a card would be wonderful. The only thing that springs to mind as a potentially suitable gift is some sort of silver charm. She could then have it as a keepsake or wear it if she wants.

Good luck with your DE cycle!

Congratulations on your match!

I keep coming back to this thread as it's got me thinking.

I'm about to start IVF with donor sperm, and will be donating eggs at the same time. I don't think it crossed my mind to thank the sperm donor once I've picked one (although of course I will be so grateful to him) but then I think that might be because it seems a bigger deal to donate eggs than sperm. Have to think that through.

As a future donor, I think maybe once your baby's been born a card would be lovely; no identifying info or anything; just a 'wanted to let you know that my baby arrived a week ago today and she/he's utterly perfect' - that sort of thing. I definitely wouldn't expect a gift at any point, so anything, no matter how small, would be really touching.

Thank you everyone for replying. Oddly enough I did think of a silver charm or some keepsake. It's just impossible to say 'thank you' for what she is doing for us. I'll definitely do a card, we are allowed to pass this on through our nurses the day she goes for egg collection but after that we won't be able to do anything.

Lots of luck to the lady with her sperm donor and thank you from all us want to be mums for doing egg donation as well. I don't think you could ever know how much we appreciate it xx

I egg donated for a couple who conceived twin boys, the biggest thanks she gave me was to let me know they had been born and were healthy, it completed the cycle for me. She also sent a picture but I didn't know their names and still don't.

Good luck with your donor Smile

I was given a card and a book... I donated through Altrui and they give the recipient more info about the donor than is usual, so the book was on a subject I said I was interested in.

The card means more to me than the book by a long shot. I think I'd have been a bit embarrassed by anything silver!!

Thanks ladies, love hearing that you've donated eggs, you are really very special girls. I have an altruistic donor so know a bit about her but not sure I know enough to pick a book or something like that. I keep looking around at things but really have no idea where to start. I hope I'm out one day and just see something that seems right. Will let you know when I find something !!
