HSG or HyCoSy? Advice needed!

After our 1st appointment at the assisted conception unit, I've been referred for an HSG. The problem is, the NHS waiting list is 5 months. If this comes back clear we will be placed on the IVF waiting list as our infertility is (so far) unexplained.

We could afford for the HSG to be done privately but the private clinic near us only offers HyCoSy. Have done a bit of reading up on both on Dr Google and I'm finding it difficult to draw a conclusion on what's better.

Can anyone advise? Thanks!

No answers but I'm booked in for Hycosy on the NHS, it's all I was offered. Between my first app and the Hycosy is 11 weeks, I was offered an earlier cancellation but it was the wrong time in my cycle.
As we have a child, ivf will be self - funded so we're going as far as we can within the NHS first.
Horrible isn't it.

It is horrible. There's no other word for it. My worry is that with a 5 month waiting list then getting dates right etc, it could be into 2015 before I get it done.

If my NHS consultant will accept HyCoSy results, I think we'll go for it through the private clinic.

We don't have any children so we'd be allowed NHS IVF. Private IVF isn't an option financially but we could afford a few tests!

I think one big advantage of Hycosy is having ultrasound (vs x-rays). I had a hycosy and it was a bit painful when they inserted the dye and very crampy afterwards, but basically fine. Using the ultrasound they were able to look at my uterus and ovaries and check they were all healthy- not sure if HSG allows this too or just checks the tubes.

It may be worth knowing that there can be a bit of an increase in fertility for a few months after either, due to the dye cleaning out the tubes (seems to have worked for us!) so that might be an argument for having whichever can be done earlier.

I can't offer advice really but founds the HyCoSy painless and totally fine. Wee bit overwhelming emotionally but nothing I couldn't handle.

Fertility boost didn't work for us as my not ovulating was the issue!

I had a hsg it was fine, both my tubes were knackered, I had nhs ivf and there were a lot of gaps between tests and appts so I got used to the waiting, I just used the time to sort the house, take the right vitamins. Give up caffeine etc
