Tamoxifen

I have been diagnosed with secondary infertility (I have a DS who's soon to be 7 years old). The consultant's nurse rang me to say that they will prescribe Tamoxifen at my next appointment (late July).

But she threw me a curve ball - the consultant is only willing to prescribe these tablets if I manage to get my BMI to 30 and under (from 36).

Weight issues aside, I am slightly confused and would appreciate some info from you lovely ladies. I thought that Tamoxifen is given to induce ovulation? I've had two day 21 blood test and results came back at 21 and 26 and I've been told that whilst these figures are low, I am ovulating.

I've been reading the side effects and thought of my periods becoming irregular or stopping altogether is freaking me out! What has your experience been with this drug? And why would I be prescribed Tamoxifen and not Clomid?

Thanks if you have made it this far Thanks

Last year I had low day 21 results, my consultant gave me clomid which gave me awful side effects for 3 months, I was then prescribed tamoxifen. He said that they do the same as clomid but side effects lower, he was correct. Also it is cheaper on private prescription than clomid, a lot cheaper.
My periods were regular and I ovulated regularly, didn't get pregnant on either through. It seems using tamoxifen is unusual but he showed me some research that supported it.

Good luck
