Refused referral for secondary infertility assessment

My GP has said that as I already have a child, I can't be referred on the NHS to an infertility clinic (conceived first daughter after 15 months of trying and now been trying for 19 months for second with no luck). Does that sound right? I thought you just had to go private for potential treatment.

GPmight not be wrong. Depends on the PCT. Ours offers no referral if either partner have children.

Check directly with your local PCT to see what the policy is.

The PCT policy is definitely no referral for treatment, but I was surprised about no referral for assessment - we don't know if there's anything actually wrong yet - just done the GP tests so far.

I have just been referred to the fertility clinic for secondary infertility. Been ttc #2 for 21 cycles. Had gp tests and a scan before referral.
I live in NW England.

Sadly with fertility treatment it is a postcode lottery - if you can find out what your area does sadly you will have to accept whatever that is. I got upset when realising my area only offered x amount of ivf attempts for primary infertility when a few miles away they offered y.

Have you had all gp blood tests? Have they indicated any problems that were not there before?

The GP phoned me today to apologise for giving me incorrect information - referral is now being made for assessment. Won't qualify for IVF if we need it but cross that bridge if it comes to it.
