Is it possible to ovulate twice in one cycle ?
lovelymumof4 · 01/03/2014 19:32
I think i may have ovulated very early this cycle, like around day 5. Now i'm day 17 and think i might be ovulating again. Have done an OPK as i'm fed up with these, they aren't helping me. i'm just going on a bit of EWCM. Really hoping i may have conceived and that this is the mucus you sometimes get in early pregnancy.

Yeah, I think you can ovulate twice in one cycle, though I don't know how common it is.

I think ovulating twice can happen, but it tends to be within 24 hours ish rather than 12 days later as you describe.
What can happen though is that the body gears up for ovulation and produces EWCM, but the hormone levels may not become high enough to trigger ovulation and then the body has another try later in the cycle.
I read that in taking charge of your fertility I think, but not 100% sure.
The thing to remember about OPKs is that they only detect the hormonal surge leading up to ovulation. They don't actually confirm that ovulation has taken place.

Yeah i think that's what's likely happening, my body is gearing up for ovulation but doesn't actually happen as my hormone levels are not high enough. I'm in perimenopause so i guess that makes sense. Would fertility drugs correct this ?
MolotovCocktail · 01/03/2014 21:42
Well, drugs like clomid stimulate ovulation so it might work. With respect, if you are perimenopausal, I wonder what the quality of your eggs would be like? Might be worth asking a fertility specialist about.
lovelymumof4 · 01/03/2014 21:45
Eggs are not of a good quality i suspect. I have ovulated a few months back as blood tests confirmed it. Like you say though even if i do have a few eggs they are probably poor quality so won't fertilise. I have a high FSH. I'm only 38, can't believe i have run out of eggs just yet.

I wouldn't have thought your womb could have been thick enough at day 5 for implantation?
lovelymumof4 · 01/03/2014 22:13
No thats what i thought. However, if i ovulated today on day 17 then it might be. Hope this is my lucky month.

Going to go buy myself a Persona. Got pregnant with my son 15 years ago using this device in the first month. Just maybe it will work for me this time.

I'm 30 and my FSH is 23, I have been getting ovulation signs still, I'm not sure on clomid but I'm not suitable for ivf now and had my second cycle cancelled x
lovelymumof4 · 01/03/2014 22:38
My most recent FSH was 15. I can try the Clomid upto FSH of 15. I don't hold out much hope. But then i know of a lady in her 40s with an FSH of 24 who is pregnant now. So it can happen. x
Lauren83 · 01/03/2014 22:42
I know you do hear of it, we were given a zero % chance of conceiving my the ivf clinic, not even 1%! But I have dodgy tubes too, my FSH was 9 last year it just jumped after my first ivf in Sept 2013 x
lovelymumof4 · 01/03/2014 23:10
So the IVF made your FSH shoot up then, that's a huge jump to go from 9 to 23. Perhaps it has come down again now x

Feeling nauseous today, could be a stomach bug, hoping not. Going to wait a few more days and POAS!!!
