Trigger.. What trigger did you have and did you have many immature eggs at EC

I have triggered with ovidrel 2 times and had 3 immature eggs first time and 5 second time.
Just wondering what triggers you had and have you had more success with different ones
(I was successful with icsi with ovidrel but no frozen as such few to fertilise)

I had pregnyl and got 4 eggs (I have low AMH and only had 4 follicles) they were all mature and all fertilised x

All 3 IVF triggers were Ovidrel. First IVF, only two mature follicles and Dr forgot to collect one of them! So only one egg which was mature and fertilised. Second IVF, 5 eggs of which 4 mature. Third IVF, 6 eggs of which 3 mature.

Can I ask how many eggs you got in total each time?

I am not sure that it is the trigger that is primarily responsible for the egg maturation, but more the size of the follicle. For example with my last IVF, I knew that 3 follicles were smaller and was surprised that they got an egg from them, so it wasn't surprising when of my 6 were immature.

Just want to share this with you that I found on the internet if it is of any reassurance or help to you:

Increased success rates have been shown where the batch of eggs collected included at least 1 or 2 immature eggs. Where there were no immature eggs, it may be a sign that stimulation was continued for too long and many of the eggs may be atresic (over mature). Immature eggs can sometimes be fertilisable by IVF but not by ICSI. So if there are suffficient sperm, it may be worth asking for IVF to be attempted on any immature eggs even if the main plan is to ICSI.

Sorry not kept in touch much, yes its all systems go, funding approved, huge pack of info to fill in which we did and posted back to Care last week then yesterday a consultation letter arrived we go on 21st March :) there's no wait for donor eggs treatment either, getting nervous now xx

Wow, so it's all systems go! I am doing another IVF cycle in March. To be honest, you actually had much better results than me with your IVF so I don't know if I am living in denial but I just keep reading and researching (and stressing and hoping!). So lets hope we both finally get some good news.

I think egg maturity has more to do with the timing of EC than the content of the trigger.

I used ovitrille. I had low egg numbers due to doing natural/ low stimulation ivf. Over 4 rounds 10 eggs were collected and one was immature.

Reading about it the trigger is what makes the egg separate from the follicle (even for ivf ) otherwise it can get stuck to follicle at collection and empty follicles. It also causes meiosis (the egg shedding half its dna to 23 chromosomes)
My friend has just done a cycle with what looks a real improvement same number of eggs 10 about same fert but last time lots didnt make it on the third day down to 2. This time with pregnyl they had 4 very good and 5 altogether.
It may not be that as could be anything. But the consultant has switched to it as he thinks he is getting better results.

I agree though it possible mine were immature as too small (i had wanted to stim longer to get more than the 8 they saw due to low fert rates last time and also had stimmed 2 days less so not surprisibg more were immature. What i dont know is whether last time most were overripe and thats why they didnt fertilise)

Naty, how are you holding up? You sound fine, offering logical advice to others on here while you wait. I would be rambling away about my every little twinge! You will seriously have to offer me some advice as to how you keep yourself sane thoughout IVF. Whatever you do obviously works as your first IVF produced your first child. Here's hoping it works for your second. So I take it you still have avoided testing then.

I read that the trigger shot is the main driver for both egg quality and maturation. It seems standard protocol in the UK is 250 Ovitrelle....but that is 50% of the full dose you need for a proper go at meiosis.. Some clinicians in the US believe it may be the main driver of why so many eggs are either immature eggs or later chromosomally abnormal embryos. Whilst the half dose is supposed to help women with OHSS - it apparently should not be a standard trigger dose for other candidates - particularly older ones like myself or those with fewer eggs.

Whilst many studies will tell you there is no difference between the doses - the truth is that they can never be sure that a “mature” egg has actually managed to properly get down to 23 chromosomes - which is where abnormalities come into play. (It is like cooking with half heat - then something looking cooked but actually on closer inspection it proves undercooked).

Personally, i think we worry so much about what to eat for good egg quality....and then possibly drop the ball with the dosage of trigger shot. I am going for 500 Ovitrelle.
