Second ivf cycle

I'm new to the site not sure how to join in but I feel like I need to talk to people going through the same, my first ivf attempt failed I have no tubes and polycystic ovaries. Partner, family and friends amazing but I feel so lonely. We had follow up appointment yesterday they are worried that the cysts are causing my eggs to be off poor quality but can't tell until second cycle, has anyone had similar problems ? They say it's still possible but I'm scared. X

I don't have any experience of cysts causing problems but didn't want to read and run. I also had a failed first attempt and we're warming up to our second try. It is scary and I know exactly what you mean about feeling lonely. There are lots of us on here to keep you company as we navigate this roller coaster of ivf!

Hi, it's the hardest thing to accept isn't it. I have no tubes but my ovaries are fine I think. I am almost 41 it has taken a few years to get to actually having IVF. It's my first time and let's face it my last. With a success rate of less than 20% for us I need to come to terms with the fact that this might not happen.
I will cry but then I will go to plan b which is child free exotic holidays, nights out without having to find a baby sitter and lie ins on a Sunday morning
So don't be scared just play the cards that life deals you.

it is so scary suzylee it can only take one time and if its meant to be it will be fingers and toes crossed for you my mum had my youngest sister at 40 I guess we must never give up hope and anything is possible. Just so hard keeping brave face as we all know its only the people going through it that reall understand. when do you girls start your cycles? xx

I don't have PCOS Jellytots, but I was preparing for another IVF cycle after one cycle had failed, but the scans showed I had cysts for the next few cycles. The nurse just immediately said that this means IVF won't be going ahead. I read this information on the internet which made me agree:

Cyst cycles in comparison with non-cyst cycles had significantly elevated day 3 basal FSH, required more ampoules of gonadotropins, showed a statistically significant decrease in the quality and number of oocytes retrieved, fertilization rate, number and quality of embryos, implantation and pregnancy rates, with a significant increase in cancellation rates.

It was frustrating having to wait, but I felt it was the right decision to wait. Am hopefully going ahead with another IVF next cycle.

I guess your situation is different in that PCOS would cause you to regularly have cysts? Did you start your last IVF with cysts on your ovaries? What was decided at your follow up appointment? Are they doing something about the cysts before you go ahead with another cycle?

Thanks for your reply. No I've always had cysts and they new when I began its cycle but didn't think it was a problem, yea I think I will always have them so all I can do is try, I start next ivf attempt end of April they are keeping everything the same just hopefully try for 2 embryo transfer. Have you had cysts removed now? When do you start ivf? Xx

Are you on metformin?
We had low fert first cycle blamed on mfi
2/8 fertilised
But both were put back and 1 baby

This time only 4 mature eggs
3/4 fertilised (1abnormal)
2 put back frades a/b and b/c
Currently 2ww

So maybe my quality was less certainly i am getting very few embryos but the ones i have are 50/50 making it.
Did you do SET?
Also i had 5 immature eggs which seems common with pcos
I had very low dose i think the lowest of menopur 75/150 alternating.
How many eggs etc

Op on my second cycle my eggs were so poor quality that I had no embryos to put back and was put on wait list for donor eggs. Devastating.

Carried on cycling whilst waiting for donor. Had twins cycle 4 with own eggs.

No not on metoformin I did produce a good embryo they said maybe like you say 50 50 im on short protocol and had low dose gonal f incase of over stimulation. wow givemeaclue you've gave me so much inspiration I wont give up thankyou xx

Ask for metformin. It also reduces miscarriages linked to pcos.
But 2 diff consultants at my clinic gave it to me for ivf.

Ok I will do when do I take it alongside injections? X

They gave me 6 weeks worth

givemeaclue, if you are still around. Can I ask if you did anything over the course of your 4 IVF's to improve egg quality? Is there something your gut feeling says you can attribute your success to? About to undergo cycle 4 myself and just want to give it my all so would love any tips.

Jellytots, my cysts resolved on their own after a couple of cycles. I thought it was the IVF that caused my cysts when they were first noticed but actually last cycle I had a cyst at the start of my cycle without having had IVF the previous cycle so who knows. Anyway, to answer your question, if this cycle is normal and if day 2 scan next cycle shows I don't have a cyst, then I will start IVF next cycle. Around mid March.

Naty, nothing I can say to help shorten the agony of the 2ww but just want to say thinking of you.

I switched clinics and had immunological treatment plus a host of other things, basically everything going. But no, not sure why the egg quality improved, some cycles I had good eggs and some I didnt. No reason why, that is why we carried on cycling even though on wait list for donor eggs which luckily we never needed

Thanks for your well wishes. You sound like you went through a lot giveme. My embryo quality seems to be improving each time and last cycle, I am sure it started the implantation process but no BFP. So I can only hope that things continue to improve and this time it implants and sticks around! Can only hope.

I also had a scan of blood flow to womb and as a result had Viagra tablets during successful cycle to improve blood flow.

Oh, wow clue. I am going to be doing Viagra next cycle as well so it is reassuring to hear that it worked for you. My Dr doesnt think I need it but I am not convinced as my periods are VERY light and barely last two days.

I have only ever heard of getting an ultrasound to measure the actual lining thickness. But from what your write, I gather you are talking about a different scan? Can I ask, were your periods light too without the Viagra? And what was your lining thickness with and without the Viagra?

Hi shell, no never had light periods. My lining always measured fine it was a scan for blood flow that I had 4th cycle then the Viagra. I didn't have a further blood flow scan after the Viagra so don't know the difference it made. I just did and took everything going for cycle 4! Don't know what it was that made the difference, or maybe I would have got pg anyway cycle 4 and it was a coincidence?! Who knows! Anyway after utter despair of the first 3 cycles I now have twins from cycle 4 and I hope the same happens for you!

Shell, it was a pelvic blood flow scan at proscan in Nottingham. If you are already taking the Viagra then I guess you don't need the scan!

Thanks so much giveme for taking the time to reply when you are already busy with twins. Pelvic blood flow scan, right, got it. As you say, I am trialing the Viagra next cycle anyway but if things don't work out (gulp, I hate even writing that) then I will ask my Dr about it to see about how my pelvic blood flow is naturally.

Can I ask one last question PLEASE? So you say your lining was always fine anyway and your periods not light. My dr says my lining is fine too but I always have light periods so want to try the Viagra. But I have since read that a lining too thick can also be detrimental to embryo implantation so am worried that the Viagra will make it too thick if my Dr says it is fine normally (but then why the barely existent period?) Anyway, so if you remember, could you tell me what your lining measured roughly in your first three IVF's, and then what it measured in your fourth successful IVF? Just wandering what difference the Viagra makes to the lining thickness.

Hi she'll, only had my lining measured cycle 1 and not again. I can't remember what it was though, just that it was within the expected parameters.mi guess that is why they didn't bother to measure again?

Oh okay giveme. Well at least its reassuring because if your lining was already normal, adding the Viagra on top obviously didn't stop the embryo implanting. Do you remember how much Viagra you took? I will be inserting one 20mg pessary both morning and night during the stim phase.
