Irregular periods ttc!!

Hey I'm new to this so was wondering if anyone could help me.
Me and my partner have been trying for a baby for a year now. I have irregular periods ever since I had the implant when I was 16 had it take. Out when I was 17, I'm 20 now. Anyway I had blood tests done to find out my prog levels were 3 an was classed as invalid as I wasn't ovulating but now I ain't had a period since 22dec 2013 and 3 neg results... Anyone ever had this before? Sorry about tmi but I've had sore nipples for a week now and had some CWD a few days ago.... Could anyone help? :(

Such problems are often caused by hormonal imbalances that have always been there; in this regard a condition called polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a common culprit. Another possibility for such irregularity of periods is thyroid imbalance. Both of these can and should be looked for in blood tests.

You really should now be referred to a subfertility unit at hospital, you may well need medical assistance in order to conceive. Is GP willing and or able to refer you now?. You also need a diagnosis of the underlying problem.

You will also need to be persistent in order to get answers.

I had my thyroid checked and everything was fine and said I didn't have pcos... It if normal for irregular periods this bad? As I've just started to come on today after 22nd dec. I'm honestly thinking I'm infertile and drs won't do tests until I've been trying for well over too years :( could the implant and pill have something to do with my periods do you think? As when I was on the implant i had a period for a solid 6 months before taking it out

I had the nexplanon removed last May and have only had 2 periods since. I do have pcos but had 35 day cycles previous to the implant, now they are 84-90 day cycles!

I saw a nurse yesterday who told me it wasn't the implant causing this but my hormones after pregnancy. My youngest is 3.5! She had no answer other than to try me on a contraceptive pill, that i do not wish to take, which would give me fake periods.

Sorry this isn't much help but i wanted to let you know you weren't alone, i wish i had never had the implant now.

Think they have missed something here; what hormone levels were tested and on which days?. If this GP is unhelpful see another one or even change GP practice.

Generally speaking you should be referred to a specialist after a year of ttc; not two.

The implant and pill both masked the symptoms of the underlying hormonal imbalance, neither caused this to arise. The implant as well likely caused you to bleed for a solid six months, that was never normal either.

The progesterone test depends on you taking it after you have ovulated. So if you have long cycles maybe cd21 is too early.
Do you know what your tsh was?
I think it can be 3 years before you are referred for unexplained infertility but may depend on gp. Although it sounds like you may have been ttc 3 years?
Did you have a scan for pcos, did they compare fsh to lh?
PCOS symptoms can be improved by weight loss.

Hey no they only checked me for thyroid problems and my prog and estrogen. I've finally gotten my monthy we'll 2 months haha but I still have no idea what is going on with me. I'll go back up the drs and see if they will do anything else for me. Same with my partner he had a semen analysis done but they said it was an invalid result as they couldn't see nothing so he has to test again. I'm just sick of my periods coming when ever they want and not succeeding in having. Child. Just wanted to know if Anyone was in the same boat.

Hi definitely worth asking for referral for tests. However I think they will not offer treatment until you are 23.

Thanks for your replies. I just think it's stupid having to be a certain age for certain treatment... Just hoping for the best and hoping there isn't anything wrong with me or my OH.

Don't give up hope , I'm the same , periods every 3-4 months & used to go missing for a year. however I was lucky enough to know when I was ovulating and so fell pregnant however ended in 6wk miscarriage. Then my periods disappeared for 6 months! After 6mnt I ovulated & fell pregnant again & 6wk miscarriage again (((
That was June 2013 & have been pretty regular (35) days since then. But soooo frustrating now I can't fall pregnant!! Every month my boobs hurt immediately after ovulation & I pray that's it, but then af arrives ((( only downside with irregular is u need to do it all the time as u never kno when ur ovulating !! I figured my eggs were pooriquality Irregular & caused me to lose my little beans,, now as I'm regular I cant fall pregnant ,,maybe coz my eggs are great quality & sperm can't crack them !!!!Ithats what pvt clinic told me. Im now waiting a few months , dee if I'm lucky & then going private for IVF , NHS don't see you till either 3 mc's or been trying for 2 yr so I'm stuck (( not prepared to w8 on NHS. If u do it every 3 days your bound to fall sooner than later as ur period will come even if irregular ! Hope this helps xxx

OPKs are completely and utterly of no benefit whatsoever if the menstrual cycles are irregular in nature. Do not waste your money!!.

You need a diagnosis first and foremost and you should be referred as a couple to a subfertility unit.

I meant to add, whilst they will not give treatment such as IVF until aged 23, if there is a reason why your cycles are so irregular they should be able to offer/suggest treatment for that. Then hopefully that will enable you to conceive naturally, once you have a diagnosis and hopefully all is ok.

Agree worth getting another SA from your dp. Otherwise, that can delay options later on.

Hey I did buy the clear blue opk and just for a laugh I took one this morning... I came off my monthly today too and to my shock my partner was screaming that it was a flashing smiley meaning I'm highly fertile... So we did the bd and gonna test tomorrow... But if that's the case I ovulate a few days after my period ends that's the reason nothing's been happening. Just fingers crossed. Will explain everything to dr Wednesday

It's not wasting money when your trying for a child. I'm not relying on them I'm using them to find what my cycle is doing . I've been advised by my dr in the past to use them so no harm in doing it

See I ain't ever had cycles that long mine vary from 32 to 45 I've never gone past 45 days. And yep the ttc is so stressful!! Argh
