day 2 blood test cock up????

hi all,
can anyone help me??
I had my day 2 blood test done this month. got results back;
progestrone less than 5

am I correct in thinking theyve tested for the wrong thing????
I thought day 2 blood tests were for LH, E2, and HSG???

why did they test for progestrone?? thought that was measured om day 21?
I'm upset and panicking that there has been a cock up!

does this sound normal/ weird to you?? anyone else been tested for progestrone levels on day 2? why? what does it tell you?

I'm so upset that this month may have been wasted if testing was screwed up!

can anyone give advice? ive been to surgery; bloods lady was clueless. said to see doctor... but bloody doctor away for 2 weeks and im going crazy!

anyone help..?

Progesterone should be tested on cd21. If its above 30, it tells u you have ovulated that month. The other tests which should be taken on cd1-5 are for LH and FSH which tell you about your egg reserve. SO yes, they have tested for the wrong thing! Hope that helps x

Thanks for your response. I'm so upset. It may seem silly but I was so geared up for getting some answers this month. Can't believe the doctors. I'm furious. I'm going to book appointment with another doctor and request they test again next month. Guess that's all I can do... I'll also be complaining to the surgery.

I must say that I m not hugely surprised. GPs I don t think really understand these quite specialist tests. In fact, when i got my FSH test back and I could see that it clearly showed a problem because id researched it beforehand, the GP was so stupid he didn't even want to refer me!

yep your right... time to get clued up and more proactive I think- i'll be making it clear to the next doctor I see what tests I require!

HSG is a test similar to an X-ray to check your tubes, this would involve going to the hospital and having a catheter with dye inserted to see if it spilled into your tubes and there were no blockages

If it's not gone by you could get the day 21 done this month as I expect they need this too for progesterone
Then fsh and lh done beginning of the following month
See a different doctor (I never see my own )
One told me " you are ovulating " I said I don't understand because such a short lp
She turned back to the screen "it says you are not ovulating"
Well that made more sense ... if I hadn't questioned it.
Another told me that the nhs can't afford fertility treatments
And I can't have hypothyroidism as I am too thin, my skin and hair are ok.
(Despite my sister having it at 7stone) to be fair my tsh wasn't that high at that point but has gone up in the years since and now I am being treated (I still weigh the same)
I found the ivf clinic a lot better, I saw the main consultant and you could really tell the difference
Have you had a sperm analysis yet, we regretted waiting until all my tests were done

Oh no I'm really sorry this happened to you, it happened to me twice at my doctors surgery (despite complaints each time), the third time I broke down in tears in the nurse's office and she did a full blood count to ensure absolutely everything would be captured. It's incredibly frustrating and upsetting when you put your trust in medical professionals who don't know what they are doing (you feel out of control enough already when going through infertility).

Definitely get a SA done if you haven't already as it can take a while to get a testing slot depending on where you live.

Naty1; yeah I've just had day 21 done. I saw another doctor today and they got BOTH blood tests wrong. Tested for the opposite things they should have on both tests. I'm booked in again for next month!
Your experiences sound awful too. The complete lack of knowledge, (even a very basic knowledge) has shocked me. The GP I saw today had no clue, she said she didn't know what needed to be tested when, but that shed 'take my word for it' !??
My DH had his semen test 11 days ago; we're still waiting for results....

Cwtching ; this happened to you TWICE!! Oh my god, I was already in tears at the surgery. If it happened again I'd be furious. Yep your right the lack of control is so upsetting. When I go back next month I'll make it clear what I want testing. Might even ask to see the sample form they fill out just to make sure

I had mine done at a normal hospital as with odd periods I could never book in advance and they the blood appointments were booked.
This meant a lot more flexibility they did them all day every day almost and I could walk there from work rather than buses so less time.
I was given a form to hand in to the hospital to tell them which bloods so I saw this in advance.
I am speechless that the gp wouldn't know the difference and vaguely when even if they don't know the details like a longer cycle would mean the day 21 test would be later.
I mean for fsh the name kind of gives this away

Happened to me twice too! Firstly I had a doctor leave before starting us on the testing journey, so waited for a month for the call for the appointments and she'd not bothered and left. Then the 5 blood tests because of various cock-ups like yours. Latest is they haven't referred us, because the ultrasound I had in August wasn't entered on to their system, they only had the paper copy. After waiting for the 6-12 weeks they said it might take, having to wait another 6-12. Can't afford to go private, and sometimes they refuse you a go on the NHS if you do. So much for referring after 6 months. a year and a half later, 39years old... tick tock tick tock

Bed ; that's awful; what a catalogue of screws ups! Must be so frustrating for you. I find most people, inc doctors, don't really understand the effect these waits have on our state of mind. When trying to conceive I've found every day of the 2 week wait feels like a month! Days, weeks and months ticking by, without any progress, really does get you down. I'm sorry you've experienced this. It really makes me feel less trusting of the doctors. In guess all I can so is pester them, reiterate everything 100 times and double check everything myself.
