blood tests to be done for referral for ivf

Hi after having 2 misscarriages an a ectopic an ttc for over 6 years I had a lap With dye test and ovarian drilling!! My remaining tube was blocked which they said they unblocked! But the consultant as told me that his gonna refere me for ivf but my problem is His asked me to have bloods taken on day 1 an day 21 of my cycle! But my luck my cycle started on christmas day so every where was shut to take my bloods! As any one had this problem?? An can I do my day 21 bloods off this cycle an day 1 of my next cycle so I'm not put back a month before even being refered

Iiwy I'd do your d21 this cycle then your early follicular phase next cycle - if you can't do it on d1 then don't worry, as long as it is done on or before d5 you'll be fine.

The other thing you need to consider is that you and DP will need to have virology done (hep b core antibody, hep b surface antigen, hep c and HIV 1+2). If you can get these done in advance then it may well be beneficial (as will getting your rubella immunity tested)

I do have another blood test which I think is for hiv and my partner as a pot to do his thing an is booked in!

Another thing is my next app with the doctor is 2 days after my d1 so should I change my app for 2 week later so they should have my results?? Or keep it? I did a check list with the doctor an these bloods are only thing that's needed to be done so he can refere me

Sounds like you're well organised!

Iiwy I'd keep the appointment, but try go get your bloods done as early in the day as you can on d1 (there tend to be batch deliveries to the laboratory so if it's done as early as possible you may well catch the first drop off which will mean that the results are available by the time you have your appointment). Most labs have a pretty quick turnaround so I think putting the appointment off may well be a waste of your time.

Unfortunately due to HFEA regulations your DP is going to need virology bloods too, but it may well be that this can be done at the IVF unit.

Have you discussed which unit you're going to go to for IVF? If not then I'd recommend that you and DP have a think about it, do your research and talk to the dr about it at your next appointment. At least then there shouldn't theoretically be anything to hold up the referral. If you're an NHS patient then the units you could be referred to will be limited by local funding arrangements, but you should be offered a choice of up to 5 different units.

Iv just checked my dates an my cycle should start 22 jan but they told me that the day I wake up and have my cycle I have bloods day after, which is my app! Even if I did it in the mornin could they still have it on time??

I'm going through nhs and I think st marys will be are choice because I know some one who is doing hers there

I'm in the same position. My period started late Xmas eve so couldn't get day one bloods taken but then did take day 5 bloods for rubella etc. The nurse said not to worry too much about missing cd1 bloods just to ring them when period starts next time. My consultation date to start IVF is 27/1 and they won't have blood tests back by then as next cycle due to start about 25/1.

its so stressfull isnt it, when your so close and one thing can set you back

can you not do your bloods first thing in the morning so they get sent in the morning batch???

It's likely that the results won't be back in time - even with a quick turnaround it still takes time to process the blood and get the result.

Two options, 1 you could reschedule your appointment, 2 you could contact the unit to tell them what has happened, it may be that the consultant could see you, look out for the results when they come through and dictate the letter after this.

Safest way, and probably the quickest? Option 1.

But if your period starts any earlier the hot paw it straight in. A couple of days turnaround is pretty normal; less than a day is pretty unlikely.

Has your dr been very explicit about getting the bloods done on day 1? Mine said days 1-3 and I've read of others being told to go on days 1-5. Also, bear in mind that most fertility clinics consider that if you start your period in the afternoon or evening (the exact cut off time differs from clinic to clinic) then the next day will be day 1.

iv just checked on my blood sheet what my bloods will be sent in and it says day 2 ..... the nurse said to me the day u wake up and have your period have your bloods taken the next day

So that sounds like day 2-3, but it's not very clear. If you start bleeding on the 1st, you would wake up to your period on the 2nd and go to get your bloods take on the 3rd?

oh now im really confused because some times i can come on in the afternoon or late at night like midddle of the night

The nurse really hasn't been very clear. My fertility clinic said that if proper bleeding (not spotting, red blood) starts in the morning , that is day 1. If if starts in the afternoon or evening, the next day is day 1. Perhaps you could call the nurse back to clarify what she meant?
